Templar Assassin
Hello, I need some good tips about this hero because she is my favourite one and I want to get better with her. A friend got me in this game and we were talking about Templar Assassin before I even start to play. I pick her a lot and I like her. Even if I dont enjoy playing with Templar Assassin sometimes because of her difficulty, I feel a need to play only that hero and I feel like this is the hero for me. I'm looking for some guidance about alternative roles and unusual builds because I'm about to experiment a lot. Here are my questions:

1. Can she carry a team like a hard carry and go on a side lane?
2. Which scaling items are a good choise for her (damage-wise)?
3. Can Blink Dagger be replaced with another item? I saw an item that acts like Force Staff and increases her range. Is that helpful enough? Maybe I can push enemies away and slow them with traps while I run. xD
4. Which rarely used items can give Templar Assassin decent damage and survivability? Is Medallion of Courage good too? I haven't seen people using it but it reduces armor. How about Bloodthorn?

That's everything I can think of for now, thanks in advance for the help.

I learnt from experience that you shouldn't pick TA if the enemy has a hero that can do DoT (damage over time) it will wear off her shield really fast. That includes Viper, Venomancer, Dark Seer (with his shell) Huskar etc...

Secondly, a very good combo would be to Use your refraction shield, Slow the enemy with your ulti go in close, meld and immediately attack. This would deal lots of damage to the enemy. Also, try to position yourself properly so that as you last hit, your psi blades hit the enemy mid. Great harass

Some items good for her would probably be Blink Dagger and Desolator. Dragon lance is also olay as it provides easy stats and extra range (she lacks it a bit) Eye of Skadi is a great item late game. If needed, get a BKB.

1. she can't be a good carry cuz she can't taking too many damage. it is not really easy
2. yeah she good at damage increase due too armor reduction maybe mkb or deadalus. if u want defensive i think u can consider manta style, bkb,AC .
3. maybe dragon lane can be replace the blink dagger if u think u can't be good melt or u miss the skill. but blink dagger most like sneaky item u can kill enemy support just only 2 shot
4. i don't think medallion can be good cuz in late game u still going to sell it for some reason. by the way bloodthorn is very good if u can't win against enemy carry u can build for more damage but beware that it can debuff ez if they have manta or bkb

She is more glass cannon bursty type than hard carry. Offlane maybe, but mid is best. Also jungling TA not as bad as you might think, especially if you're new and playing with new people.

Standard mid TA best items early are bottle, phase (treads work too, depends on the game) magicwand sometimes.
Core items are blink and deso, you want these every game asap, almost without exception
Best damage/utility items later are bkb, manta, bfly, daed, mkb, ac, moonshard. And rapier ofcourse if youre stomping like you should be. You mentioned medaillion which is decent but should be bought by a support ideally because as an early game item there are much better choices. Bloodthorn is probably a no sinch half the stats are wasted, as far as crits go daed is so far superior. If you really need silence for a blink or invis hero, its best for your team to build orchid/sheepstick.
The item you mentioned, hurricane pike, is alright, but subideal. She doesnt really need the mana or hp regen, since blink is better for initiating and escaping the mobility isnt that useful, but worth considering if you seem to be teamfighting alot. Just a dragon lance can be great if you need a stronger early/mid game, but endgame a dragonlance/hurricanepike isn't your best option.

As far as unusual builds go, you can build to initiate, hit, and escape using hurricane pike or shadowblade/silveredge. You can focus on persistent damage over burst like manta+diffusal, good for teamfights or countering heroes like wk. Someone mentioned skadi, which doesn't really synergize with TA's kit but can be good if doing a lot of teamfighting and chasing, but better alternatives for tank would be bkb or linkens. If getting rapier, hotd or heart good, planning for rapier you should get hotd, great stats in the interim and lets you solo rosh. (note: doesnt stack with deso.) Radiance also if enemy team is particulary weak against it isnt bad, good for splitpushing if you are forced into that role. SnY if ganking alot. Mjollnir if high armor enemy team.

bottle, treads, ring of aquila.
dont forget to stack ancient and even the jungle. you can farm the stacks very quick.
and yes you can carry your team. you can even 1vs5 but TA's most power is in MID game
like after your deso and blink and bkb.
BKB Must have. or you die way too fast.
with desolator you will do incredible damage and then you can build daedelus and MKB.
if you need more HP then go for skadi or HoT.

here is one video of me of TA. maybe it can help you

I figured out most of what you said, except the thing about Eye of Skadi. Why does she benefit from it if she can slow without it and uses Desolator instead? And im trying to get rid of Blink Dagger because It doesnt give any stats and I can't use it while my opponents attack me. C:
Maybe just me but i like to go Skadi.....
I tried replacing blink dagger with force staff and eventually hurricane pike. Works kinda okay
U must play her on mid to get early gold for item.

Refraction add damage to deny without lower its count, with blink u can escape gank, use it wisely!

Learn to control your trap, most people forgot to put it when lv 6, it's kinda free vision.

Never play against certain heroes like viper, silencer, Jakiro and etc.

I usually played with 3.8 - 4.5k, main items are bottle, blink, bkb or manta and DPS item like deso or daedalus.

So Templar Assassin usually goes mid. Is it because of her traps that she uses to gank and control runes? I have seen topics about an "Assassination" build with Phase Boots and Blink Dagger for bursting mid-game, and a "Racecar" build when she uses Power Treads, Drums and Yasha for better carrying. Is the "Racecar" build for when TA is her team's second hope? What if she go farm on a lane and use traps in the jungle to prevent ganks and farm safe? Isn't she worse than any other Carry who go on a side lane?

P.S. I really don't like Blink Dagger. :C

Racecar is when you know the game is going to last long, so you need a carry/tank build rather than just damage.

Blink dagger is one of the core items for TA, if the enemy doesn't have DoT you can blink out when you're being attacked because of your refraction.

U should try to play a lot, get a right build is one thing, but play it well need practice.

TA is niche hero, not that hard to play but really hard to master.

And you need to predict the battle before jump in.

oh yeah, calculate skill one cooldown, so u can activated it then wait, jump in battle when it has like 3-5 cool down.

No, it's bad. It's a support item, other players should put it on you, you shouldn't buy it because you'll lack damage. Want to counter pudge , buy bkb, want to counter doom? buy bkb + linkens.

I learned some nice stuff in a lobby. Lotus Orb is very viable for TA because it reflects single-target spells AND ITEMS while Refraction blocks all the incoming damage. If I have Aghanim's Scepter, I will reflect ultimates with their upgraded version. Why I haven't seen anyone using those two items???

EDIT: It countered Doom and Pudge, which are considered my counters! Especially if I get the scepter before Doom. Pudge got stunned and damaged by his ult, while I didn't feel a thing. :D

AFAIK having Agh's doesn't affect Lotus Orb. The spell is cast by the orb, not by you, so it reflects whatever version of the spell was cast on you. Lotus orb is not a good item for TA to build.

Hurricane pike is a great item for TA, you should absolutely build it. However, in most games you're going to want blink as well. Blink is great for TA since it doesn't go on cd if you take dmg whilst refraction is up. This means you have often have time to react even if you get caught out.

Medallion is not a good item either. TA needs dmg. Deso is good because it auto puts minus armour on whoever you hit. When moving to get good angles for psi blades you often need to change target, so medallion becomes much worse. Plus, supports can always buy medallion and use it.

Sorry to say this but Blink Dagger is essential for TA. I used to dislike Blink Dagger like you when I didn't know how to use it wisely few months ago, but I'm fine now, if you're not good at it, go play with bots. The reason why Blink is essential is because Blink got cancel because of physical damage, but with TA refraction shield, the Blink will not be cancel, which mean you can easily get away with Blink, consider your shield is on.

1. She can be in sidelane, but she can't hardcarry. Other hard carries such as Void, PA or Juggernaut defeat her with ease.
2. Deso fast, followed with Dagger, or wise versa. BKB is a must when you can't melt the opponents anymore. After that, buy crit, MKB or what is needed. It's a bit sad she is ranged becaus it means she can't fully use Assault Blade.
3. Yes and no. Dagger is a very important mobility item for TA. But if the opponents doesn't have many mobility (be able to cross cliffs, tress and etc.) I guess you can make Pike.
4. Bloodthorn is a possible replacement for Daedalus. But can't really say much can replace stuffs. I would say tier 4/5 neutral items are your bet here.
