Seriously... That UI/HUD is just purely bad in this era.
EDIT: Except for the click through HUD this post is meaninless after 7.00!



Lemme guess... "learn to click LoL fanboy!" "you are a noob for not clicking not on the UI" "it has been like that for ages!!!!!" "if they change it more ppl will join the game and as dota die hard fans we hate ppl!"
Just stop it... please.
There is no reason (AT ALL!) for the UI to not be click through!
I should be able to move the camera while giving the hero commands to move.
The UI shouldn't be the thing I fight the enemies and the tactics should be!


This game is by far superior to LoL and other ARTS/MOBA games yet it is unplayable for humans.
Just because the first game(mod ahhm!) was based on WC with its old and clunky UI doesn't mean that the new game that is based on the mod should too.

HUD, by definition, should be something that shows you the relevant info you need while being the least obstructive.

Another problem with these types of games(not only dota) that bothers me:
There is no reason (these days with high res monitors) to not allow just a lil bit more zoom out! Fog of war is there for a reason! Warcraft was built for old a** PCs and monitors with low resolutions that couldn't show you enough details if you zoomed out.
Allowing to zoom out more will not interfere with competitiveness or with the balance of the game.
"But Yossi, ppl play on small monitors! they will have hard time doing creeps while being zoomed out!" - Well didn't you just say that us noobs can't click good enough? show us how good you are with clicking things! How about this awesome play style optimization: zoom vs accuracy. you pick your favorite zoom that is comfortable for YOU to click stuff. i'm not saying half map extreme zoom out... just about 1.5x-2x the current height as the maximum zoom out, or at least the hero's field of view. it will also fix that damn camera angle that is so annoying when you play as the dire. (performance wise this game doesn't run on old hardware anyway...)

As a game that is focused on strategy and control there are too many things standing between the player and the Actual game.

The zoom out ability is the only thing that would affect the gameplay in some minor way but being able to walk where you want to? That should be trivial!
The game should understand what the player wants to do and not blatantly block the user's input.

These are my opinions and some other people's on the internet as well.

This discussion was designed to repel Dota diehard fans that thinks there is no room for improvement in this game, and welcome open mindedness.
In behalf of all the new players who wants to play this game (play! not fight the HUD), VALVE... do something about the UI...
Make it smaller, customizable, transparent... i don't care, just make it so that it doesn't obstruct the gameplay! (and mostly transparent for right clicks!) you added map hover delay now it's time for the clickthrough HUD!

Your iseas are stupid and you should feel bad. There is a reason Dota is the most successful game on Steam and you don't have a game design job. That reason is made very clear in your post.
I see no problem; the difference is simply what you are used to playing League.

Those UI's look incredible. I'd actually pay for something like that... if only just to remove the giant score obscuring the top of the screen.

The problem with less zoom would be that you indeed have a visual advantage over the ones playing with a closer zoom. The Fog Of War is a legit argument, BUT... lets say that a ward grants you vision. The fact that you can spot an enemy earlier than others (it happens that you don´t spot enemies on the minimap) is a massive advantage. Now imagine a PA relying on not being spotted so easily. Guess what happens if you see her 5 seconds earlier than normally...

Not really sure what you're talking about. You say it's "just purely bad" but you don't appear to say why you think it's bad or what is bad about it.

As far as moving the camera while giving your hero commands, you can. There are a number of hotkeys and you can map panning to the keyboard.

You can't click throught the massive HUD. It feels really clunky and unresponsive.
I don't like LoL but when something does something right you simply cannot unsee the wrong.
I really want to play dota and so do alot of my friend and all of them don't play this game because they need to fight the UI instead of the enemies.

I don't have a problem with the design itself I just hate it when design interfears with function

In an RTS that's what I do but this is an action game i need to be able to use my skills move my camera and issue commands at the same time.

You can bind map panning to keys as I mentioned already, which seemed to be your chief complaint.

1. the 7.00 map ui is cleaner and smaller than before and gives more vision of the screen

2. there are these amazing things callled the settings you should check them out instead of using the default. change your camera pan speed because the default is just way too slow. i have a mouse with multiple buttons so i bind my Items to it while my Abilities are 1 2 3 4 5 6 on the keyboard which is slightly above the WASD which i use for camera movement. this is unconventional but the thing about keybinds is they are personal and depend on the person and thats just what im comfortable with

Due to input not registering when you click there....

Besides i should be able to move the camera while issuing commands to walk in the moving direction. I can't because the game won't register right clicks on the HUD...

I couldn't agree more, I just reinstalled Dota 2 after a 4-6 month break and I'm astonished at how unresponsive the interface now is. Clicks and even hotkeys are sometimes extremely sluggish to respond, and erratically so. It's not lag, and the frame rate is fine on my Nvidia 765M. I feel like I'm playing the game through Go2MyPC.
