Armor and Desolator
Hello community,
I was wondering if I should go for a Desolator in a certain hero build.
I then did some research and even though I already knew about the fact that you can have 'negative' armor, I began to think about how I would use Desolator.

I would buy Desolator on heroes if the opposing team has some heroes with high armor stats.
For example, you could buy Desolator against a Terrorblade because he has the highest base armor or against an Axe since his call ability instantly generates 40 armor.

For me it does not make sense to reduce the armor of a low armor based hero.

Now, since there is the negative armor thing, I don't see a reason for why I should not get Desolator on almost every melee right-click hero. Low armor equals more damage so Desolator should be read like '+90 damage' straight.
I would even say that you should buy Desolator against heroes that do not have much armor.

Please tell me if I did get anything wrong. Is Desolator meant to be used to counter high armored heroes, to translate directly into damage and help every hero or shoudl you use it to even further reduce the armor of low armored heroes?

Desolator is not meant as a counter to high armor heroes but for heroes with high physical damage (like pa for example) to increase their damage output.

If you are only looking to directly lower armor, medallion is cheaper and can be upgraded to further reduce armor.

No, not on every hero. desolator is a unique attack modifier meaning it does not work with lifesteal or skadi or certain hero passives. unless you want to fork out 2000k for a vlads on a hero who would normally get helm its horrible. also, like stated above, its ment for strong physical burst damage/glass canons, who want to do the most damage in a short amount of time. other minus armor items are better for other heros such as:

tanky melee carries (like wraith king and sven) want assault cuirass to add armor to their high hp pool, and the attack speed most of them lack

supports want medalion as it can save allies or weaken enemies (and its cheap!) one exception is lycan who needs minus armor early.

I was about to whether or not add Desolator to my Lifestealer build. I know that his Feast does physical damage but what would be a good reason for me to add it other than 'more damage'? I mean, damage is not too situational (compared to MKB or BKB in order to specifically counter heros).

Deso for Lifestealer is ok, if you dont need the space for blink or another utility/counter item like MKB. You already got lifesteal and dont need a bkb in every game because of your rage.
