What does Lane suggestion mean?
I'm totally new to the game, and this is really confusing. What does Lane suggestion mean? I mean how do I even read that? After I pick a hero, there's a percentage number under it... ok, what does that mean? doesn't seem to change if I click on the minimap in that stage on different lanes?

% of how many times that hero goes to a certain lane because of the hero capability , for example : axe usually goes offlane because he loves squshy agi hero to bully and be on top of them and him naturally needing only tankyness to deal dmg is what makes him an offlaner , for mid burst and gank potential and so on

ok, what you say makes sense. But shouldn't the % of the 3 lanes combined add up to 100? How come they are all the same number like 93% or something? Is it because I'm in a new player mode game?

don't pay attention to that , the game is still in beta lol , just read what does the hero ability do if u plan to play somethig and think for yourself , against what and why is this hero's skillset good , sometimes an axe can be good mid but most of the times he is offlane

This is 100 percent true.

OK gotcha, thank you for the explanation, I'll just ignore that lane suggestion thing then.
Lane suggestion indicates what lane a hero 'typically' goes. The reason it doesn't add up to 100% is that the displayed number is as a proportion of the hero's total games, rather than relative to the other heroes in the game.

Lets say Axe and Bristleback are both on the same team. (hypothetically, just pulling numbers out of my butt) Axe goes Offlane 75% of the time and Safelane 25% of the time. Bristleback goes Offlane 50% of the time and Safelane 50% of the time.

In this case, you would be shown "Axe Offlane, 75%" and "Bristleback Safelane, 50%", because the autopicker thinks that, when Axe is on the team, Bristle should play Safelane.

Until you get a feel for the game you shouldn't ignore it, you should just do what it says to do. Eventually you'll understand what heroes work where, but until then ignoring it isn't a wise move.

Why would they logically add up to 100%? Its an individual percentage of going to a certain lane per hero. Theres no reason for percentages for different role hero per lane to add up with eachother.
And no jokes aside game isnt in beta and if youre new you will have easier time doing what game is 'telling you to' purely until you learn your own educated guess. Just a tip.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you start by playing through ALL of the in-game tutorials under the Learn tab first. Also, it's slightly outdated but you should read the "Welcome to Dota, You suck" Purge guide as well.

Here's a compilation of tips, tutorials and resources for new players, including the guide I mentioned.

I'm assuming it would add up to 100% on the same hero is what I meant. Otherwise how could the same hero be 93% on all 3 lanes? I would love to follow the lane suggestion, except I have no idea what it's trying to tell me. That's what I've been trying to figure out. That 93% under my hero isn't changing when I click on different lanes after hero selection. So where is it trying to tell me to go is my question.

If a hero is viable for multiple lanes instead one, then percentage can be high like that yeah. But as established percentage was for individual lane viability. So where is it trying to make you go? If you have 3 lanes with same percentage you choose. If you understand picks and counterpicks, go to lane youll be better in against their picks. Are you farming or a support? Those questions help you answer where to go if lane assistant is telling you 2 or 3 lanes are ok for your pick. Standard rule is that top lane offlaner farms and support helps him and ganks occasionally. Midder farms and ganks if necessary. Safelane is a carry and support babysitting him. So think more like, what do you plan to do in the lane? Cuz Bristleback as babysitter support in safelane is horrible. Thus, youll avoid that lane if there already is a carry in safelane. Etc.
Or just wing it and russian roulette pick the lane. :Furrowed:

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
