Mic not working in DOTA 2
I have an USB Mic and I also have an audio interface. The USB is connected to the PC and audio goes out through the audio interface. It works well on all my programs, even on Steam. But not on DOTA. The audio options show audio device, which is set to default (the default is USB mic for recording, audio interface for output), but I'm afraid the game is picking just one device, in this case the audio interface, which would result in ignoring the mic.

Is there any solution to my problem? Thanks.

Check your conduct summary, if it's under 3000 it will disable your mic and chat.

Nah, It's well over 8K, but I still can't play ranked because not enough hours. Is that factor for mic disabling?

BTW, icon shows red crossed, when I push to talk.

What does your Steam - Settings look like when you select In-Game Voice?

1) In Dota, open the Settings tab and click on Audio
2) Under Voice, click on "Steam voice settings" above the Current recording level.
3) Click Detect Audio Devices and re-test your microphone.

If you have discord I can help over chat. Feel free to reach out.

It says USB Mic there, but it's not responding. On the other hand, if I go to my Friends & Chat Configuration, there's no problem in detecting and testing my mic. I also don't have problems having voice calls through Steam with friends. So old config voice seems to not work, while new voice config works without problems.

I'm inclined to think it's not a problem with my mic or configuration, but rather with the game going through the wrong places to find my devices.

BTW, thanks for offering help.

Check if you have your bind set to Voice (Party). Set it to Voice (team) and switch the voice (party) to something else. Perhaps that might work?

No, I have set it to Team. I have trtied both and neither works.

Right click on audio icon (Down Right) ---->Sounds---->Recording--->Right click on mouse (Show Disable Devices---Enable them all---->After enable---->Right click properties--->Listen---Check Listen to this device---Apply--Talk and check voice working correctly --->if no voice do same steps to others one by one---->now after check your voice working---> go to Dota options---AUDIO----Click on AUDIO Defaults (left down)--now check Sound Device and Speaker Configuration---Change them one by one until Voice working.

Thanks for the extensive explanation, but my device is working properly in all my programs, but DOTA 2. The thing is: I have different recording and output device. So if, in DOTA 2 I select anything but Default, I will not get any output.

Ahh that solved my issue - thanks!!
I have the same issue. Using Windows + Focusrite Scarlet Solo + Shure SM7B.

What I have:

1. I can see my mic working in Steam "Friends & Chat" settings when I try "Start Microphone Test".
2. In Dota it's not working, I don't see.
3. When I try to configure mic in Dota Settings, I see "Recording device settings are configured using Steam voice settings". "Steam voice settings" is clickable, and when I click it, OLD "Steam - Settings - Broadcasting" window shows up, and there I can click "Configure microphone". And in this "OLD mic settings page" I can't get my mic to work, and yes, I can't change the device (I think, that you can't change this when you are in the game).
4. I can't open this "OLD mic settings page" when I'm not in the game, because at the moment it is broken https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1736588252376276182/

So yes, I think, that Dota 2 doesn't use new "Steam Friends & Chat mic settings", and it uses "OLD mic settings page", and we can't configure it, because old settings are broken lul.

Help us, please! My Competitive Dota 2 experience suffers a lot. I can't communicate with my team, and this is important in Divine+ rank :(

Accept my steam friend invite i could help you out
Steam is kinda stupid in this question. It only sees the mic that is set as default communication device in Windows audio device settings. To make sure that you've done that go to the control panel->hardware and sound->under the sound section pick "manage audio devices" then go to the recording tab and right click your desired microphone. Pick "set as default communication device" and that should do it)

This is the solution
Open Dota, then go to the settings in Dota, not in Steam, then go to social
Then select All players
