The only other possibility is that someone who has access to your data and mobile phone decided to transfer their items to themselves.
Valve used to restore scammed/stolen items...and guess what players did? You're not gonna believe this...they intentionally "stole" their own items using alt accounts or collaborators so they could sell the item quickly, pocket the money and then get the item(s) back. That's why Valve doesn't restore items now.
Then maybe someone who had access to your account.. Either way, you should leave, revoke your API key, deauthorize other devices and reset your password. Thats what I would do at least.
Yes you are in that group..You are in 7 groups at moment and one of them is Dota777, don't complain then if you lost your items while you keep join this kinda of groups..
Take things that have clear indication of bieng stolen (as through api substitution) and return them back to original account. If they were sold on the market - charge back and let banks and police deal with the rest.
Also items that are gifted shouldnt be transferrable so quickly. That means that i dont need to wait 2 weeks to gift item or bieng friends for month to have the ability, but the guy who got gift shouldnt be able to transfer it for this month and the gift should be reversable.
That will solve all those steal item problems along with bringing way more convinience.
Once money changes hands, especially when it changes hands outside of the Steam platform, there is very little that Valve can do about that. Valve doesn't have international jurisdiction. They don't have their own black helicopters. And the scammers launder those items and money very quickly outside of the platform so there's not really a whole lot that Valve can do. Punishing or banning the scammers does very little, since they use dozens or even hundreds of alt accounts. Also, chargebacks cost Valve money. So Valve can punish themselves and they can punish some users that really had nothing to do with the scam, but the scammers for the most part *MAYBE* get an account banned, and they already have more accounts on standby so they can go right back, rinse and repeat.
Valve has already placed so many restrictions on trading and market transactions. They would have to remove the trade and market system completely to stop trade and market scams.
and you not gonna get item for free and instead getting item for free you lost yours
even my 11years son know this
First of all - they quickly launder items? Then on rare or valuable trades limit how far they can go in a short amount of time.
Now system works stupid - i cannot gift items unless we are friends for a month. What SHOULD have been done is that item traded immidiately, but for this month player can revert this gift easily and nessesary gets a warning about items traded. Just like with messages or bans on forum.
And now everybody are happy - i can gift my stuff whoever i like instantly and scammers cant launder items for a full month. And there is really no good reason to transfer items through multiple prople within short amount of time. If some one doesnt want to keep item ge shouldnt be gifted it in the first place.
You see? Problem is already heavily mitigated in seconds on two fronts. And thats a month every transfer. So the less revertion for each possible transfer.
Second of all argument "it cost valve money" and "they did a lot to restrict it" are both invalid.
First if all the fact that their system allows for a recipient substitute for YEARS and they know and do NOTHING about it basically already makes them accomplices, as they abuse natural human mistakes to put responsibility on the end usrrs, promoting scamming by this. If they perdonally had material responsibility the situations where you get gift from who knows who, then remove him from friends, block him and trade gift away would never happened AT ALL.
Even so - chargeback as far as i know put responsibility not on valve but on bank system, so they revert transfer of money AND as soon as banks have such amount of charge backs police will get involved by those financial organisations, since there is more than enough methodsvto find those criminals if there is a wish to do so, putting complete stop on routine scamming operations in steam, cause everybody will know that it isnt worth it, not like now - its easy and no one cares.
At this point valve just found an excuse that doesnt hold water in reality, and shove their responsibility on users to carry the brunt of their poorly made system.
It doesnt cancel the fact of mistake that people do by login in on fishing sites, but valve allows it on sites like dotabuff right? One click or credentials entering - doesnt matter. The fact that you possibly CAN for some reason and NEED to login with steam data SOMEWHERE ELSE but steam is already ridiculous.
Amoung tenth of sites and gorums i dont have a TWO places where I should enter the same password. Why valve support login in on third party sites with their password?
Why whenever api key is created there is no massive warm ng in mobile identificator and mail adress IMMIDIATELY? When you add phoenix ne or change password its a common idea to warn people about it, WHY it is not warned when people get API key massively involved in scam schemes? What is the problem? Valvd do spem me with this or that promotions so they definitely have the tools.
All of those would seriously cut the scamming of items and all we need is just a wish to fix it
