Getting banned for sucking at the game.
How I see the situation
Today I got a message saying: "Matchmaking disabled due to excessive reports, failing to ready-up, abandoning or other negative behavior." It was around 20-min ban.

I constantly get reported for feeding even though I'm doing my best. This has led to me being banned from the game, because I get excessive amount of reports. I'm not even playing ranked, but the system is still super harsh to new players like me. If I can't even train in unranked without bans, then where can I? No where.

How I feel about it
It's not fun losing all the time and then getting banned on top of it. It feels like the game is telling me to go away and not play it. "You suck at this game, so go away. You weren't meant to play this game." Also all mean comments in game when you can't do your part are not nice.

I'm okay with losing all the time until I become a better player. I'm okay with haters, because I can always mute them. The only thing I'm not okay with is the fact that I can get banned for simply being bad. I feel like it's unfair, because I can't do anything about it. Please be more newbie friendly.

For the record
For the record I have only abandoned one match and not been ready one time when I have found a match. Now after feeding one game with lifestealer 3/10/13 I got insta banned.

The system is quite harsh to keep toxic players out. If you abandon 2 out of 25 matches you get low prio.

How reports work is a bit different. If you get reported one match no action is usually taken, but if you get reported consistently then they consider the person to be mischievous.

Maybe play against bots a bit until you can understand some characters and other things, but normally if you tell them you are new at the start of the game, other players become more lenient and try to help.

It's true you can play with bots, but you don't really learn anything while playing with them. You can make dumb plays and still stay alive.

Yes but you still get used to when to buy items, when to go back, when to make certain calls etc. Even if it is more simplified. I think if people report you its probably that they see youre not in the right position on the map doing the right objective. In DotA, its more useful to have good macro skills and then maybe your teammates will see youre not trying to feed.
Otherwise you can always ask your teammates for help and they usually are understanding, if you ask early on.

This is not true ...
you cant report people for bad play
this report will not count at overwatch
normal ppl with overwatch case will see this as *not guilty*
if someone fails in fight its not a reason to punish him
every one have bad games or is unlucky sometimes...

you can be banned from matchmaking for these things
ruin ranked games by scripting, intentionally feeding,
battle pass abuse, blocking neutrals with wards, buy all
wards and destroy them, abusing your abilitys
(like toss your teammates with tiny inside enemy camp)
and beeing afk with shadow amulett all game.
insane or racist language.

If you die a lot and are trying to learn the game, maybe play fewer carries and more supports instead. People tend to be a little more forgiving for those roles.

I totally agree with Son Goku, and sorry, I totally disagree with BFG ;-)

when playing an unranked game and you do badly you can get reported AND OVERWATCH WILL punish you

this is crazy, I am totally against reporting someone who had NO INTENTION of playing badly, did NOT purposely feed and then gets reported and punished

A ranked game, fair enough, a CAPTAIN game, fair enough, but in DOTA you will find narcissists that are good at the game, expect you to play as they would, expect you will follow their commands and if you don't they WILL REPORT YOU for CONDUCT !!

this is crazy, I should be free to play, learn, try in an unranked game and as long as you don't intentionally do badly OVERWATCH should not ban you.

secondly there is NO RECOURSE, nowhere is there a platform that you can explain: I was learning a fragile AGILITY hero, the opposing team had invisible assasins and e.g. Barathrum and made a point to target you, even if you just try to go into your own woods etc. and the to the SELF APPOINTED CAPTAIN you seem to be ignoring (non-existent) TEAM ORDERS.
There is no platform for you to defend yourself and explain what you were trying to do, that your PC lag was up when you seemed stuck in woods and got ganked etc....

thirdly, in my country THERE ARE NO SINGLE DRAFT MATCHMAKING POOLS .... I was reported (even though my team won and I strongly pushed mid towers / racks / ancient and helped end the game with a 6/10/16 score). Now for 2 weeks I have not been able to matchmake a low priority single draft game ..... so in effect I am banned from DOTA despite 411 hours played and a lifetime conduct score of 10 000.

totally ridiculous, firstly the report, secondly the punishment, and most of all the fact that there are no alternative penalties, I just have to wait forever for a non-existent SINGLE DRAFT LOW PRIORITY GAME in South AFrica.

As a new player you can learn a lot by playing with bots.

This applies to matches against real players as well though.

No platform? There is the thing called chat you hit enter say "sorry I lagged".

I have never gotten low prio from being reported and I have 800+ hours on dota, twice as much as you, so probably you need to see if your behaviour was bad or not. If you don't do toxic things and don't leave the game, you don't get in low prio. I have 800 hours of proof for that.

Though if you dont find game in south africa I guess you are unlucky, try different servers.

so here is the deal, the fact that you got 20 minutes ban tells me that you did not get it because of reports.
Timed bans are given to failure to ready or connect to accepted games.
Longer period timed bans that are months or years long are given to cheaters and smurfs and toxic players.
Reports about griefing, feeding etc will put you in low priority pool which will force you to play and win certain number of single drafts.
To train use the new player que not unranked

All you get from playing bots is bad habits

I personally don't play bots but if you're an absolute beginner it will stop you from getting reported as you coop and ask your teammates for general info and tips.
Kathelia.dokgu May 28, 2021 @ 1:15pm
Playing with bots is only good to demo the hero you're using or to see what other heroes do. In terms of teamfights and getting objectives.. you won't learn from them. The bots will just embed bad habits I think. Maybe try to play with friends who knows that you're new and can be more forgiving and understanding.

Good luck!

The game is not designed around the pve modes. Playing bots is not well supported. But players don‘t want to see new or bad players in their pvp games either. The bot modes are not serious enough and the pvp modes are much to serious.

You'll find that most people who are playing bad would say something like:

- "It's just a game."
- "It's just turbo."
- "It's unranked."

But these same people would get mad if they're doing well while their teammates aren't. So the amount of seriousness that people have in a game usually depends on how they're doing.
