Solar crest
Is it better used as a buff or debuff. I mean if it is better on heros that have a proc on hit passive on either team. Does it matter who does more damage?
Should I just use it on who does more damage?

Id recommend using it on your ally hero who initiates/goes in, time your usage properly cause it has a cooldown :cleanhourglass:

If you are ganking someone and neither you nor your carry are in any significant danger then it is better to use it on the person being ganked so they die faster and have less time to TP out / escape / call for support. On the other hand if you and your carry get ganked you are better off using it on your guy to help him survive, and if it is a general teamfight it depends on how much of a difference it makes between your carry dying vs their guy dying. If your team loses late game then you really can't afford to feed at all and may need to prioritize your teammate's survival. If your team wins lategame you can afford to be a bit more aggressive and willing to go all in and debuff the enemy instead.

As ecerythong in dota its depends on the situation.

Your buff/debuff must do maximum impact. Several heroes attack enemy? Debuff as it raise damage from all. Your tank getting focused? Buff.

You must based on your calculation make a decision, what in this exact situation will be more usefull.

Armor reduction is the less valuable as its target has lower max hp. So using solar on terrorblade will be much less efficient than using it on pudge or centaur. Solar also has components of attack speed and haste/slow, which are also situational.

Even in situations where no one run anywhere and two carries just manfight each other you still need to know what carries are fighting and what items they have.

That's the situation I was thinking of. Two late game carries fighting each other and if I get into I just die.

The game I was unsure of was a sniper versus faceless void. I think void had more efficient damage

If you were allied with the Void and the Sniper had his Hurricane Pike, you should use the buff on your Void because it will give him some extra tank and defense to survive the sniper's ranged attacks from the Pike, and the speed boost will give him the ability to actually catch up after Pike is used. Sniper will melt as soon as Void starts getting Timelock procs on him, Void just needs to survive long enough to reach him.
If you're allied with the Sniper, Hurricane Pike still in play, you will probably want to debuff the Void, as it will slow him significantly and reduce his tankiness further, and in the event he reaches your sniper post-Pike use, the attack slow will give your sniper a better chance of juking him and avoiding getting perma-Timelocked.

This matchup could go in many different ways depending on what abilities are or aren't on CD or what other heroes, buffs, or items are in play, but in this very general situation using the Crest on the Void in both scenarios seems like the right play.

Considering that void has proccing bashes it would be better to throw crest on him to reduce amount of bash procs CONSIDERING he has no way to dispell it with manta bkb or such.

Because otherwise sniper will not be able to use attack speed anyway since he is constantly bashed.

But to be honest it would be better to have some kind of stun, or halberg that cannot be dispelled and disarm void completely. Not that it is much more expensive than crest.

well the game was match 6054406302 and I kept going back and forth on using it on fv
starting after 43 min at a rosh fight. i kept doubting if I should buff him or debuff sniper
