MMR Decay
My MMR was 4.3K when I stopped playing the game about 5-6 years ago. I decided to play a few games, then I wanted to see my MMR, and completed the 10 required games, and the result was 2.6K. Obviously I couldn't play like I did previously after such a long break, but is there a way for me to get back my previous MMR? If I got better again, could I get it back after the new season, or do I have to earn it through winning games?

In between mmr scale got rescaled, shifted and compressed by a few mandatory saisonal recalibrations. Thus, don‘t bother.

Like absche said its been adjusted. Even you think 2,6k mmr is low from your previous mmr but its actually the right pool for you to play.

So, a lot of people from my rank are now around 2.6K? And it's not because I stopped playing?

Yes around but not exactly the same. In my opinion. Its called recalibration.
