Dota 2

Do you think PC gamers are too entitled
So over the years while playing certain games, I've notice how upset players continue to get update after update. Personally, I don't get it, especially on a gaming platform such as steam. I feel this way about PC gaming in general but the Dota 2 community is the worst when it comes to constant complaining and being upset over nothing, most recently, Diretide. Yes it came with some bugs but its a genuinely fun game mode that had fixes day 1. Dota 2 like most of valves "competitive" games are literally free and you get so much for it being a free game. Oh and Valve pays you for playing games which it may not be much but with constant sales and y'know, other game platforms getting nothing, that's a pretty big thing. So with Extremely discounted games weekly, trading, getting payed for playing a game, well flushed out beautiful FREE games, a social platform, free mods, giving the community a chance to show their worth and get paid for it with the workshop and a lot more, what are your guys problem? Let me know what you guys think though.

People like to use "Free" as something you need to get as it is.

This so called "Free" game take more money out of my pocket than a "Non Free AAA" title ever did.

And yes this community is able to get really toxic especially when they need to fight ridicules bad matches.

Dota 2 is our top one hate love and that is more any other game have ever reached!

But nobody is forcing you to buy anything so this game is free. as for the ridiculous matches, I feel like people need to learn to lose. You win some, you lose some, move on to the next match.

The game being free doesn't take away the gambling mechanics implemented with increasing oddity and events like this one with free chests but paying keys. It should be treated as a gambling company at some points because some people here seem to be quite vulnerable to this kind of addiction and they spend huge sum in this "free" game.

The problem is not to lose! The problem is how you lose.
If it does not matter that you have join the match -> people getting toxic.
To use Dantes words -> simple as that!

That's on the person, If we were going to go by that than marketing in general would be "Wrong". But like I said PC gaming as a whole, not just Dota, there are many other points.

True, it does suck being on a toxic team and losing, I always say I'd rather lose with a new player than win with a toxic player. But thats most games so you just gotta find friends, which steam does a good job of connecting people with interest.

There are many countries where betting is restricted by laws. Dota 2 is in a grey zone with this chest system.

Yeah, personally I think its up to the person to limit thereself. I lived in the EU for 10 years of my life and i know its different. But many contries have laws that another country might think is bad (for example, cigarette vending machines in europe), its all just perspective. Like the same tactics valve uses for lootboxes is the same tactics people use to sell clothes and every other thing in the world. I think the reason people dont like lootboxes is mostly cause the quality of the games dwindle because of them and not cause the "mental well-being" of people like most say.

Spot on, I live in Europe indeed. Things would be worse without regulation, or people would slowly kill themselves I guess.

By definition, addicted people are addicted because they can't limit themselves, they need help. And Valve isn't helping, but encouraging this behaviour for profit.

No its not pc gaming as a whole.its gaming in general. You honestly think console players are less toxic?Thats not the case.Just they do it more through mics in game because it takes too long for them to type in game without keyboard. Not to mention console gamers dont really use forums.
I hate this dumb mentality that its just pc gamers.
Also dota community isnt as toxic as you think. It's the people who use steam forums.Half the trolls on dota forums crying fro example have made multiple accounts to try get there wrong opinions across or change username to pretend its another person.
Gamers in general have become more self entitled. But thats not just in gaming,Thats in every aspect of life.A lot of these newer gamers have had life easy and not used to the concept of accepting they are wrong in any way.

Yes but people are addicted to clothing, fast food, gaming, gambling, even work. Life has its gray areas and theres not an answer to everything. When i was 12 i got addicted to gambling until i was 15, to this day i take responsibility for that. Something that i think alot of people can never do, instead they blame others.

Nah I dont think its just PC gamers, its just most console platers just buy a $500 machine and sit there i guess lol. My point is, with all the stuff we get that they dont get, why is it so negative no matter what game i play. But yeah i really agree with life becoming more entitled than ever. Every time i get on a platform people are always dragging things they dont need to

So you are against law on tabacco? Against laws who compell fast food and industrials to put warnings on their food and such?

Dota2 players, the older the player is (gameplay wise) the more full of themself player is. They think game owes them something for playing it so they develop emotional attachment and treat it like a relationship. Thats why they come write ''dear diary, today i-'' kinda threads every day about their gameplay experience. I think dota2 players worst enemy is the game itself, and they sometimes forget they, contrary to popular belief, CAN install and play other games. I think playing only dota2 every day all day is bad, just like playing any other game that way is. Im not advising people to quit per se, or to uninstall forever, but taking break for anything is always good idea. Especially when the game is making you lose your marbles and become toxic. :foxhimezero_ruri1:
Newer players will complain too, and I dont see anything wrong about genuinely being noob and not knowing. But when people blame devs, steam, other players and game itself, before they have learned it, is quite bothersome.
Do i think things can be improved, even in this system i think for the most part is fine? Of course.
But things that actually need improvement are very rarely discussed on this forum. But its hardly anything these people suggest that actually makes sense.

No im just against selective outrage. The people i see who are constantly outraged at lootboxes are the same ones who love pokemon or mtg, or other things very similar to it. They love pokemon cards but hate lootboxes? Its the same concept. Buy a pack(crate) and unwrap it hoping to get a good item, and if not, they do it again. But those things are okay and "cute" i dont like people enforcing laws for just one thing. So if lootboxes need to go, so does everything thats just another form of lootboxes, according to those lawmakers. I think thats not cool cause its up to the person to limit themselves, not the company to not sale things. All companies do these things yet they dont get regulated to full on stop. Its just imo not fair. Like the same year that lootboxes became the worst thing ever, pokemon go was the most popular thing, yet its basically the same thing:winter2019joyfultearsyul:
