Dota 2
My Nvidia GTX 970 (4GB) works really bad only on Dota 2
I've bought an Nvidia GTX 970 (4GB) for my MAC PRO 5,1 (32 GB RAM), 3,2 GHZ XEON, and performs worse than my ATI 5570 (1GB). It's really strange, I've downloaded the latest drivers and i've got same fps (35-40) with lower or higher settings. However, any other game runs really well, so... is there anything I can do? I saw many Nvidia users have/had this problem. Don't tell buying a PC or whatever plz xD

If you're playing with DSR,or using more than 3.5GB of VRAM at one time, expect somewhat low framerates.

Maybe it's your Xeon...? No one really plays with a Xeon, lol. Last time I checked they're for running servers on.

Have you tried changing the renderer to OpenGL,maybe? Just a thought. I have a 970 and I get a solid 60fps whilst playing DOTA,so I don't really know what the problem could be.

the last 0.5 GB is about 7 times slower I think that the other 3.5. Due to that you might feel some micro stuttering in high demanding games that uses all your vram. But the 0.5 GB is still way faster than ssd or memory storage, so you do not notice it. I run Dota on 1440p with a 970 oc and have 100 fps, according to the fps indicator in the game. I do not think the card is causing any problems in Dota as it is a mile above what you need for the game.

I had a ATI 5870 before my upgrade and had 60 fps in Dota, but that was on 1080p. I do not think your gpu is causing your problems.

Edit: I pushed up the fps indicator range and it runs on about 150 - 160 fps max settings 1440p. I dont think the card is the problem.
The problem is easy to fix. Dont use a mac.
There is FPS lock on DotA 2. Also usually NVIDIA graphic control panel or something chooses to use your integrated graphics (intel HD) to play dota 2.
Closing note OP,ditch the Mac.

Silly normie, did you think you could game on one? lol
xeon have lower clocks per processor and they cause alot of problems in games because sota utilizes single core most of the time

Any other game i play is on max settings 2550x1440 resolution and it works really well. I use my mac for work mostly, but it can be used for games as well, it's a computer in the end . What is more, you can play in this mac with an NVIDIA Titan 12GB if you can afford it, or you can even use that gpu in any mac via thunderbolt with a SONNET.

I do think is a Gpu issue because i didn't have any problem with my previous gpu (Sapphire 7950 3Gb, rest in peace). Maybe it's an open GL issue with nvidia but I don't know how to force open GL use on dota 2 for mac.

I have never had a mac so I do not know what progs they use. But do you not have the Nvidia controll/performance panel where you can change all gpu settings? The gpu prog should have settings that overrides any game settings.
