Wraith king has a vampiric aura for everyone around him. Basically, he heals everyone around him. Thus he is partially support. As lifestrealer is a support as well, because his third ability should heal* everyone dealing damage to the target.
That doesn't mean WK is suitable for 4 or 5 role. WK isn't a support hero. He has support abilities (as most of heroes in dota 2 have)

Wk is not a support hero, but can be a utility one.
as said by @BOTTOMLESS, Vampiric aura is what makes this hero essential in team fights. There is this also his Aghanim Ult upgrade which is super game changer especially in late game.
Supports does not need so much gold for them to get items to be able to be helpful to the team, however WK needs to farm for him to be able to be activated in team fights. Wk is not good for pos 4 5 but most likely either be pos 1 or pos 3.
I believe any hero will work on offlane, but if your builds are similarly to pos1, you are doing it wrong. It is not a second safelane.

Mekansm is a support item. Libeled as support item. Would you report every mid player with greaves? Exactly. Everything is situational in dota 2. Any support hero is as carry as any other. Some support heroes can destroy in late game even more than hard carries. That doesn't make support carries. Anyone that picks WK as support without approval of his team should be reported. As any pos 5 pudge etc.

WK has the vampiric aura as mentioned but also wraithfire blast as reliable stun. He is an ideal aura carrier. Besides that people are easy with reporting and throw matches very early on if they think they’ve got a strange lineup. Not a good choice for solo queue ranked roles but worth a try in a game with friends.

Let's just say that he is VERY SITUATIONAL support. He does have a stun and aura.
He was even played as sup on pro scene for some time as he could survive and do decent damage with few to no items and his aghs is a very powerful for team trading.

wraith king is bad at support role. he might be useful. but in a carry build item.. if ur item was a carry build, u were surely got reported by ur teammates as the item should match with ur roles and as a utility hero, wk can only label as support bcause of his passive and thats why people choose wk . in my opinion he is not useful in support role. u can use him as safelane hero but as support.. , it depends. theres a possibility that u could lose the game . for example, if the enemy support has ogre, lion, shaman or wd.. u should pick a decent support. with aoe abilities. that would be suits as support.

As you can see, the community is rather divided, confused and baffled as to why he is and whether or not he should be and what support even means in Dota 2 at this point. A field medic behind the frontlines is considered support, but so is an ally gunhawk or what not is there to just help obliterate the enemy where it can. To support is typically to assist, enhance or be of utilitarian use. By definition, almost every hero can fall into this category, same as in regards to the term 'Carry'. Very, and I mean a very, select few fall out of one or the either amongst the hero pool by technicality. But we here at Dota 2 push personal belief's and misrepresented decade old terms and charting over that stuff in favor of a more game lock style to that of League.

Why is Wraith King labeled as a 'Support'? Probably due to having an area effective passive, summons and crowd control. Will you get reported for picking said "Support" in a socketing system where there's a slot labeled "Supports go here"? Highly likely, due to the current general playerbase not knowing how to do much of anything outside of the current norm so most people are unopened to it even with communication for the most part.

'Professionals' can get away with it because they're 'Professionals' and typically actually put in a ton more effort than 99% of the playerbase to understand the game. It is extremely unlikely that you are that, or the people you are playing with, which is why you'll often be punished for trying to step out of line. Because odds are you don't actually know what you're doing and neither do they.

WK has some support style abilities, a stun and a lifesteal aura but he is not a support hero. He is a heavy farm hero who relies on jungle farm, which means that's farm that your cores are not going to get. So if you claim that you're playing "support WK" then you're really just playing core WK, core jungling and farming and core build. That's probably one of the reasons why you're getting reported. According to yourself, you have a conduct score of 1700-2k and it sounds like you're doing this kind of stuff on purpose.

We know exactly what support is.

It's a player that give up farm and concentrate on boosting his cores farm, disrupting enemy farm and performing all macro duty and micro utility duty staying efficient from beggining of the game untill the very end.

If you can do this all on whatever character you picked you can be support.

If you cannot - no matter what you picked you are just waste of space.
