Sven tips
I am very very new to Dota and I like this guy name Sven. Anyone know how to play him? I am having serious trouble adjusting to Dota and Sven since I usually play Smite.

don't first pick it since it can be easily countered
power boots and maybe echo sabre is you want are the main items that i get at least
and then... is up to how the match goes and what you need.
there are also guides that indicates you what to buy and what to level up.
you can choose it from the equipment at the hero selection, or in the shop when you are already in game

TY for all this help.
Before playing dota carry, go train vs AI, learn to deny, last hit, ward, counter ward...... Learn to control different units, creep, group, learn to stack, pull jungle..... Control the courrier, don't pick it and deny someone courrier 's call !! control your map

Watch streaming, and learn more....

Too much newbie players on dota who goes carry pîck, and don't know the basics of this game !

Get a decent build from guides and remember that your stun has AOE. Play casual and you will learn the hero in few games. Another advice: learn from your own experience with him.

Tried looking on DOTAfire but no updated builds are there.

Sven = farm farm farm with your cleave and stun stun stun with your hammer. Then melt with your God's strength.

Well, dude. you are a new player picking a carry. you do need to play all the roles to understand the game, but when you pick sven, or any other carry for that matter, assuming the rest of your team picks accordingly (you get one or two supports and they try to help you in farming), much is expected of you. The team will be counting on you to, well, carry the game when needed.

I'm not sure he's a good pick to you now.

Anyway, check his dotabuff page. you can get an idea of what people do with him and heroes you should avoid going up against.

dotabuff.com/heroes/sven

Just a quick tip here, he goes safelane (top if you are in the dire team, bot if you are in the radiant), requires farm, so don't mess up your last hits and is a carry.

Most of the time you will want to max your Cleave first, so you can farm faster. The stun only gets more damage with more levels. Since most of your damage will come from your attacks, you can max it later. Warcry is a better skill to max after the Cleave since it lowers a lot the cooldown Speed and gives more armor, which benefits your whole team that is also affected when you use it. You should save your Ult to teamfights, but assuming you just need to farm for the moment, you can use it to push towers or farm ancients.

The items you get for Sven are Blink (your main initiation tool.) and BKB. The rest depends in the game. Sometimes you may want to swap Blink for Shadow Blade (not sometimes, rarely actually) if they have too many ways to disable your Blink. BKB may also not be necessary in every game. It depends on how many disables you are up against, but most of the time it is, so do get it.

That's the problem it's so hard to farm and make gold because gold gain is so ungodly slow.

with cleave you hit all creeps at once so you can farm them faster. and spend on items that help you farm , like echo sabre, quelling blade early

Ok, I'll try that next time I play DOTA just not use to this slow gold gain since I usually play smite.
