The only quote I ever found coming from a Dota 2 dev explaining why there is no surrender button in Dota is that "it would remove the fun of winning and hitting the final blow on your ennemie" (rephrased in my own words).

I do think on the other hand that past a certain amount of time there should be a surrender button. People who argue it's reasonable to think anyone who commits to a Dota 2 game should always plan to go trough a 90 minutes game in his schedul seems to go to far to me.
I've had way too many games when I was carrying solo 4 mates that basically refused to play and afkfarmed jungle till the end. If they had a surrender option, I would've gotten all the hate from everyone of them, because they were bad. Especially in the game like dota 2 where 1/2 players do not see the reason to try. "i lost my lane, i'm bad, let's surrender because I have no idea what to do after losing my lane". Screw the fact that your carry is doing well and mid player won the lane and snowballing the game solo rn.
I recall 3 games when everything was lost, but I won the game eventually. One as carry jugg 10-0 with lost mid and hard. One as mid riki 0-5 with won mid but the enemy team stacked as 5 to t3 so we couldn't do anything. Another win with ending score 20-5. And hard weaver. My carry was braindead and "wanted to surrender not to waste his time". Carried him a game with two supports that helped a lot saving my life.
Now swap every "win" with "forfeit" because my team wanted to surrender. Or even worse: with LP game next to it, because if I refuse to surrender I'll get 4 reports after the game.
