The Battlepass isn't meant to be an investment. You get it if you want the exclusive Arcanas / Personas and early access to the Immortals. The Battlepass USED to be profitable, but nowadays, the high level requirement for the exclusives means that anyone wanting to get them will certainly get all the common Immortals along the way. And even the Ultra Rare Immortals rarely go for more than $10, far less than the number of chests required to unlock them. If there's a specific Immortal you want, just wait till it's marketable; only get the Battlepass if you want the exclusives and the minigames.
What about people who do not care about investments and just want to get cosmetics by their personal taste. Valve is killing community market and there's nothing good about it. I missed one event, so now what? At least they could've still sold old battlepass for me to grind that cosmetics. But no, it simply has gone.
