Certain mmr spreads in parties are allowed. The opponent team should have a mean mmr and ideally a similar spread as well. Mixed skill party gaming is quite usual and fun. The games I know are mostly quite balanced.
i luv to play as ancient in archon game in core midlane.
if enemy midlane is under legend, i'll have good fun laning.
but enemy might have ancient or divine level... if enemy is divine on mid lane.. then i'll have "not so fun" mid laning phase.
overall, i'll say it's fair. if you don't want to fight people higher rank then you, better don't party with people higher rank then you.
solo que then. and remove the option to matchup with party in the option.
there you go, problem solve, you will only meet people around your level.
It is a bad thing indeed, they should reduce the gap allowed between the max and the minimum mmr within the same party. They could also consider only the maximum mmr of the team for the matchup, but it may be a worse solution given it could give a disadvantage to a team with such a party in it. This way I saw immortal, ancient, legend and archon in the same team against average legend...
