Edit: Mek can be good if you have a early push draft and can get it fast.
Are you talking about that +2 armour? lol, give me a break. You get the mek for the burst heal not the armour. Sure you can combine it with certain effects, but +2 is nothing. It could be somerthing early game, but the problem is that mek usually comes online late early/mid game. At that stage +2 armour is trash.
I mean, if the person has no interest in picking Greaves, might as well not buy Mek. That's why while I can see the value on getting Mek of Viper, I'm not entirely conviced it is the best play.
This is especially true now. Viper Q's buff makes him a stronger late-game than before. No need to focus entirely on mid-game with mek.
Mek is the item for Pos. 3 or 4 heroes. The Pos. 5 does not have money, and the mid / carry wants to build something better. The point of building a mek is to PUSH immediately after, and the person who buys it should say something like "I have mek now, we push NOW." where every person (except maybe the farming carry) all strike a lane. If team doesn't listen, mek's effect is wasted.
I don't know why someone would buy Mek on Viper when they could just get a damage item instead. Viper's kit is not even teamfight oriented imo. It's more of ganker one.
In any other case: Just do the math: 250 healing for every unit in its AoE, add 4 hp per second and 2 armor. 2 armor in the mid game will be a 5% physical damage decrease in average on a hero. Also the stats are good, especially on a support.
The more drawn out your fights are, or the more you rely on pushing with all 5 ppl, the more valuable the item is.
