Did the game using Source 2 (Reborn update) improve your FPS?
Dota 2 was changed to use the Source 2 engine in 2015 which was called the Reborn update. The Source 2 engine supposely improves your FPS over Source 1 because "it uses more CPU cores" and "runs better on older laptops, and at the same time further increases performance on current desktops."

So did your framerate increase?

yes. Greatly. Not only that it also made use of DirectX 9 EX properly

I remember it doing the exact opposite of what it was intended to do for older systems, they said it'd run better on old set ups but yeah no it ran horribly on them at the start. Mine wasn't even super old at the time and I ended up eating a performance hit pretty hard.
Like Mint said, it kinda fugma'd older systems when it was first released, but it was optimized not too long after and delivered on what was promised. Dota now still runs worse than when Reborn first hit though, at least on newer systems, mostly because of the high resolution textures update we got like a year or so ago, and because of all of the various systems that have been added since then. The massive increase in the cosmetic library probably doesn't actually have much effect on performance, just hard drive bloat.

Now if only other source 2 games gets the same optimization. *looks at CSGO*
