Dota 2

Why is the dota 2 folder for live servers called "beta" instead of the dota 2 test folder being called "beta"?
Was clearing folders manually in steamapps/common because some games tend to save 5GB+ of data even after uninstalled. Found the dota 2 folder named "dota 2 beta" and figured since I never play on the "Dota 2 Test" version of the game, I can delete that folder since "test" and "beta" are basically the same in this regard.

Little bit later. Was gonna play Dota 2, on the live version. folder missing. Apparently the live server folder, for stable release Dota 2, is named "Dota 2 Beta". Who made this insane decision? This will literally take me a full day to download again.

The current version of the game was 'beta' before it became live. To change its name would mean changing every file path in the game, or just leave it as it is (by far the easiest option).

"test" and "beta" are not the same.

Maybe you will learn from your mistake and not delete large folders of which you know nothing about.

I mean ur right, it's not the same, but since the beta was in 2012 or so, which is 7 years ago, 7 years, they've had enough time to make the change, especially since the game is updated really often and one of the most played on Steam, it would feel safe to assume beta folder would mean beta for upcoming feature and not something which they're too lazy to change for 7 years. But yes, I get your point and I can see that.

Oh and about deleting folders which I don't know about. I also had Garry's Mod folder with 20 GB in it, but in Steam it was uninstalled, and looking into it I saw it was a lot of downloads queued and some workshop items still downloaded, so seeing that in a "Dota 2 Beta" folder made me assume it's from when I uninstalled "Dota 2 Test", since in a lot of games "test servers" is a place where you "beta test" upcoming features.

Gonna mark your message as answer though.

We signed a 2 year contract for fibre 4 years ago, they still haven't started digging at all, all neighbour towns has gotten their stuff installed, and we haven't switched because every 3 months they promise it will now be done in 2 months. + it's one of the few highest rated fibre companies in my country (Sweden) recommended by a lot of close friends, which influence more to make us stay. So I'm currently on ADSL2 (telephone jack) 8Mbit/s down for 3 years more than I was promised by a "trustworthy award winning fibre company". Sorry for the rant, the situation just really grinds my gears.
