Dota 2

Whats the reason for not having dota 3 announced?
Whats the current problem with developing the next release of dota? Its one of the best if not THE best moba out there, and its player base is shrunk into 2 regions of the world pretty much.

Currently as of this post, under 300k players and this is after the recent lan event that draws attention and players for a bit.

I think everyone here should be able to agree that it would sell great, make tons of money, so whats the hold up? Is it technical? Design based?

Man i really miss the moba hype that dota presents, and those fresh days of dota 2, man, nothing beats that.

There is no point.
Hype comes through new versions and time/compendium.

Maybe because people fell into the quick dopamine spike trap MOBAs offered, and now people understood that such games are not worth it? MOBA is a dead genre bro, that's why you do not see Dota 3 or LoL 2 etc. Because there is no point into releasing it, people will not play it because they start to understand the true nature of this genre, even the most addicted ones. MOBA is closer to gambling than gaming. The only thing that matters is win win win. The fun and enjoyment aspect that games are supposed to provide is non-existent.

I guess your hype and mine are 2 very different things... Compendium is ok for when TI gets going, but even then only the current players watch it, the player base has been dropping constantly when TI is not present.

Also im pretty sure the majority of dota players want a new release that isnt just a patch work meant to patch up a hole and tweak the meta bit.

your basically playing dota 3 right now.

dota 1 = yea

dota 2 = released .... awhile back

dota 2 "reborn" = updated graphics, platform, changed map, turned it more into league and hots than it's original dota 2... at this point i dont really recognize the game anymore. i only played 1 game of dota today (when i used to melt 16hrs a day trying to climb mmr) and honestly im content with just that 1 game being played today...
the graphics of a dota 3 wouldn't be much better than they are now due to system requirements. to do a major overhaul and make a dota 3 ur gonna have to wait until atleast 2022 - 2024 (for graphics now days to look so dated you'll ask yourself "how did i even play this game back then")
but by then i'm sure dota 3 will be VR or something... they seem to be trying to press VR onto the gaming community and i mean, if you love the radiation your phone puts out, that close to your eyes, then by all means, be my guest. but i wont be one.
sorry but why need dota 3 when they can keep update the old one... i dont understand... dota 2 was hype and fresh becuz it is a completely new game... it a big difference between dota 1 and 2.
dota 1 was a custom game with terrible graphic, dota 2 is a standalone game with best graphic, etc...

but if they do dota 3 now it gonna be the same as dota 2... i think a moba dont really needs 2nd version (unlike rpg, etc), they just need update

You can keep updating any game, so that excuse can be used for anything.....You can do tons of changes to a new game, both visual, map, meta, and heroes. By starting fresh, with different abilities, creating huge amounts of hype, imagine playing dota 3 with millions of players, and having different lore as well as skins.

I have spent thousands on this game over the years, but currently, its a shell of its self, its sad where it is, its hardly even played by NA players and is being carried by 2 regions in the world with currently of this post under 300k players.

I think its had its time, and it was a success but now its time for a new one.

i do agree dota 2 is plain and boring when there no new skin, compendium, etc. going on, but i think the main problem the player is shrinking is because of non-practical mechanic this game have, not becuz of no new event.

this game require an hour or 2 to queue for and play a single game... that is what many ppl cant afford/ not interested in spending... gameply also too stressful (for solo player) it feel like a job more than game... many ppl dont want to spend hours to play a single match to end up getting stressed and losing....

My opinion is that MOBA days are long gone. If something like Dota 3 ever comes, I don't think it will be MOBA, at least not in the shape and form we know it.

New graphic will demand new pcs from players. And valve trying to cover most with this free game. So I wouldn't await DotA 3 until serious jump in average PC performance.

ye but a moba is not like rpg or movie, it have no story or consequences, it just like a sport or something. so a 2nd version is a bit meangingless, and it might also divide the playerbase

if they make a new one with complete different hero, item, lore, gameplay etc it gonna be a new game, not dota anymore... they do not have anything related to dota anymore (unlike rpg/ movie who have same main character, gameplay, main plot, but with different graphic, consequence, etc)

but i get what u mean, i also very hype when a new version of my favorite game/ movie come out, but moba isn't the one...

I think you are speaking a bit closed minded tbh. While some of what you say is true, the issue is that at its prime, games were under 40 minutes when i played, with que included... That is not bad at all...

Also i dont know why people are saying "moba's are a dead genre" or that "people are not interested in mobas" are you kidding me? its one of the biggest and most addictive genres.... The problem is we dont have enough of them so what we do have gets stale and boring. What are the 3 biggest mobas right now? Dota2, LoL, and ?? i honestly dont know, there are a couple other moba's out there but in terms of 3rd biggest? Who knows, Hots maybe?

You can bet 100% that if LoL2 or Dota3 was to get announced that the hype would explode instantly anyone saying otherwise is just being silly tbh.

There is a huge market for moba's because there arent many out there, ontop of the market being flooded with BR"s its a perfect time for something NEW OLD STOCK.

Also whats with people talking about their PC's? My 5 year old PC was running dota just fine, its a moba for crying outloud, you dont need 240 fps. Not to mention the games coming out currently require much more hardware then what dota 3 would ever require so im not sure where this is coming from.

I get if valve does not want to make it, but then the question would come back as to why, what is the specific reason for it? Its a 6 year old game at this point its just a tad behind CSGO....

why do we need a third dota though? also theres something that is referred to as peak hours when most people are online, this is not that time.

ty fo ur detail explanation, but i still disagree some part with you...

i play already 12k hours and my average time is 1 hour (including 5 min que and 5 minute pick time)

i also disagree ppl say moba is died, the problem is many ppl not interested in playing long game time with stranger. most player is solo queue player, so match time very important... long match = frustration = toxicity = drive ppl out the game... i believe a 20 minute game time is perfect... i play turbo and ranked a lot so i can see the difference now... also a more solo friendly game (like personal courier, ranked role, etc) will raise the playerbase as well...

i do believe if dota 3 come out, everyone will hype... but is only temporary due to no new thing... ppl will slowly realize is the same thing we get in every dota 2 update...

in contrary when dota 2 came out, it was hype becuz ppl didnt know, they try it, the game (and moba genre) is completly new... years later (now) ppl get tired of long match and starte shrinking... dota 3 will not make a big difference anymore unless they do something very specail like more solo friendly and reduced game time, which can be done in dota 2...

i agree with PC part... graphic is not excuse to not do something new... they can make graphic setting to low
