Auto Renewed Dota 2 Plus Subscription Issue
Hello, I have purchased 1 month Dota 2 subscription to give it a try instead of buying 1 year subscription but it renewed itself automatically after 1 month is ended and took my money without my permission just now. I want my money to be refunded. This is robbery.

You purchased a SUBSCRIPTION.
YOU SUBSCRIBED.

Why is this thread still going?

YOU SUBSCRIBED!!!!!!!!!

subscription
/səbˈskrɪpʃ(ə)n/
noun
1.
an arrangement to receive something, typically a publication, regularly by paying in advance.
"make sure you get a copy every month by taking out a subscription"
Did you miss the part where it says "1 month" subscription, not a "monthly" subscription?! It's intentionally vague language like that that is actually a common (scummy) business practice meant to dupe the majority of people who don't have time to catch this intentionally misleading wordplay into paying for something they didn't sign up for.

Yes, he should've read it more carefully. But the truth is that it's common practice by businesses to make language intentionally misleading or vague, or to put the important stipulations in the contract in small print so it's harder to find. And it seems like a very lucrative practice, considering they have uninformed people like you constantly defending them and berating the defrauded consumer. Shady business practices like this are right up there with fraud.

Consider the case of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau returning billions of dollars to defrauded consumers, wherein their banks charged them a fee for "credit card protection" service. Upon further investigation, the CFPB found out that they had no actual system to protect credit card theft or loss, and were just charging their customers for nothing. Now I'm not comparing that to this guy's problem, but clearly, intentionally misleading and vague language is not the duped consumer's fault, now is it?!

It’s not robbery if you didn’t read what you were buying.

If you want to cancel, click on your Steam wallet then click on Manage subscriptions. You are not going to get a refund though.

subscription means you get charged every month, so things are working as intended.
next time buy 1 month if you want it, not subscription.

Hope they check for Steam later because Valve is scamming so many users with this trick.

That’s a goofy investigation and a waste of time. I have or had all of those services and not once had I not understood the terms of what a subscription is or what is included in it. And when things get changed, I have been notified well in advance (for example, XBOX Rewards).

So nice try Space, but that’s not going to even get off the ground...

If he failed to read the words recurring charge before he hit the buy button, that’s not Valve’s problem. They made it quite clear that non-recurring purchases were available.
That was pure your own fault, valve already give feature MONTH SUBSCRIPTION and BUY 1-MONTH option, then you've choosen MONTH SUBCRIPTION, so don't shock if they take your money automatically

if you chose ONE-MONTH option then it wont happened

SO ,
the conclusion is
1. Go check yourself about the step that you've taken before do blame
2. Admit that it was your fault instead of blamming valve about your own fault/stupidness
3. Move-on, don't do it again
4. Learn from fault

Try to contact with your card's provider and tell them it was unwilling spent from your card then they will also investigate about this stuff. Because it is clearly a cyber crime and what if you lost your account to stop these monthly renewal.
It is the best to not feed these money hungry dictators like Valve, don't let them steal your single penny.

Chargebacks will only get your account locked, so that’s also not a good idea.

Space, why are you trying to get OP in trouble?

or you could do what normal people do in dota...

in the game, click on your dota plus points. in the top right you can click "manage subscription"

if you only wanted 1 month then buy the month and then cancel the subscription just to have it for 1 month.
though there are perks to having this feature - it shows the meta builds for the hero that you picked (the stuff the pro's are getting on that hero), in stat tracking - i've noticed when they added this feature to dota plus, my inscribed gems no longer work that are imbued into my gear, i'm assuming they moved the stat tracking to dota plus only. there's nifty gear from the store, plus you can use the mobile app to bet points on pro teams (who will win/lose battles), plus the app keeps you up to date on who joins/leaves your favorite teams (i didn't even know fear was on j-storm with moo until i got this app)

i could go on and on why it's a good feature to have but ultimately, it's upto you if you think it's worth the measly 4$ a month, which is equal to a gallon of milk.

edit: about my comment on stat tracking, on sniper i have a cosmetic that has inscribed gems embedded into it: 30k wards purchased another one that has 30k wards placed, and 33.8 million gold spent. when i got dota plus, these stats no longer move.

op cant and wont get refund because he didnt read what he is buying which is his own fault, and that doesnt hold up with subscriptions. you have clear option to buy dota+ 1 month subscription and 1 month one time payment. any subscription of a sort that exists online can be cancelled but not refunded after already being billed. hes either too young or too ignorant to comprehend that.

There's literally an option to purchase only one month of Dota+. If that's what you wanted, you should've gone for that.

You bought the subscription, which is on an auto-renewal basis. (This is EXPLICITLY stated when purchasing the subscription.)

You didn't even know what you bought. Stop trying to claim theft.

Robbery? No. Stupidity? Yes.

Guys come on, I purchased it in a quite late time and I wasn't Lawyer up at that time to read every god lowed thing. I feel quite sure that i have selected 1 month purchase and I feel like they robbed me. If they didn't they took my money 1 minute before this post, they can refund it right?

but naaah, we wrote everything there so if you are not that carefull we have rights to f you in the bottom.

So it’s their fault that you didn’t read exactly what you were buying?

So in that sense, I can buy a ticket to a game or an event for one day, show up at the stadium on the wrong day and then demand that I still be seated, even though I didn’t read what I bought. Do you realize how silly that argument is?

You could’ve reviewed everything even after you bought it, cancelled it, request a refund stating that you made this in error, then you couldve bought the non-recurring one. You had an opportunity to correct your error and you didn’t.

As a consumer, you have the duty to read what you are buying. No lawyer is going to take up your case. Especially over $3.00, since their fees are normally 10000* that 3 bucks
