Punished for leaving?
Hello, I'm new to Dota and I realized that if you leave mid-game you get punished. in my honest opinion I think that's too much (Unless it's Ranked) I understand that people rage-quit (I being one of them) and it basically destroys any chance of their team winning, but that's better than them playing and giving up on trying and feeding the enemies. another thing to point out is internet connection, Poor Internet could lead to you being forced to leave and missing out on the game, or worse, not being able to reconnect. My last point is emergencies. It could be medical or situational. like if your house catches fire, or you start to feel like fainting.
Feel free to discuss this with me and have a wonderful day :)

You’re ruining the game for 9 other players. If you have a legit emergency and you absolutely must leave, then you’re really not going to be concerned with the penalty you’re going to get.

It’s fine as is. And I think it’s too light. But it’s fine.

Right there you explained why this is necessary.

You have 5 minutes to reconnect to a match before you receive an Abandon. During that time, your teammates (or sometimes even the enemy team) can pause the timer for you.

Unfortunately, you just have to eat the penalty in those cases.
People who who make a habit of abandoning receive an escalating penalty too, so try to stick it out through the rough games to avoid the really nasty Low Priority queues.

Some people could ruin the game for other players while being forced to stay. Like intentional feeding. If I had to leave for an emergency I'd be a bit pissed to find out I have a penalty when i come back to play.

What if the internet shuts off randomly? that happened to me before, and as mentioned before, you can demolish your team's chance of winning if you stay angry. Also I'd leave when I know there is no chance for me to win

Penalties are necessary since days of dota 1 because people were leaving constantly as there werent any penalties. I could get like only 1 finished game per 10 matches back then.

If it were a real life emergency as you said, last thing you would worry about is a game penalty. It did happen a few years ago when apartment directly above mine caught fire. I turned off pc and left the building. That fire was quite serious

I'm sorry about the fire.
I feel like it's bad either way. Making your team mad and being mad.

That’s why the report system is in place to address this. If you leave, how are the repeat offenders going to be punished?

Ragequitting is a poor excuse to the “We don’t like the abandon system” argument. And if it was a legit emergency (not the mother yelling at you for not picking up your laundry emergency) or some issue that happened out of your control, then fine, it is what it is. You’re still going to get punished.

And you get a free abandon every now and again. So if you do have internet troubles or have to leave, then the system is pretty forgiving of not sending you to low priority.

So no, let’s not rehash this. Because as you can see, it’s a pretty well established component and it has very good reasons for existing in the first place.

Honestly I'm always surprised that people get shocked when they see that quitting a game gets them punished.

Dude, stop searching for exuces.. If you leave the game and didn't came back before 5 minutes, than you're getting a abandon = punishement if you do it atleast twice... Leaving matches = ruining the match for 9 other players.... If you get punished because your internet is crap, than perhaps get better internet? If it's a medical case than just go and stop bothering about being punished...

'I understand that people rage-quit (I being one of them) and it basically destroys any chance of their team winning, but that's better than them playing and giving up on trying and feeding the enemies'

Uhm no... Feeding/leaving is literally the same.. In both of those cases, 1 player ruïns it for others.. Where as feeding ruïns it for 4 other players and abandoning ruïns it for 9 other players...

The punishment system works as intended.. Period.

I’m pulling up scenarios and you have to answer them.

How about this, a game mode where you can leave without being punish? It’s a separate game mode, but it has the same rules. Rage quitting is not a bad excuse because forcing someone to stay and place could make them angrier

More like excuses on why people shouldn't get punished in your opinion (You being one of them obviously)..

You get 1 free abandon, that's it.. It doesn't matter to the system what your cause of leaving the game is.. Again, if your internet is crap, than get better internet (Unless you live on the north pole).. Leaving and not reconnecting = abandon.. Abandon x2 = punishment, doesn't matter what the reason is.

This topic has been discussed numerous of times. Every time conclusion -> Valve is not responsible for medical emergencies, other emergencies, bad internet connection or any other reason following you quitting the game session in the middle of the game, therefore doesn't care as system is automated anyway.

It's the reality check, it will never be changed.

You can report feeders / leavers and that's all you can do about somebody ruining your game. Furthermore you ruining game to others will result you being reported and punished, which is exactly what you did, and it's well deserved. Yes, it is.

Just another pointless topic and inability to use Search system as well.

Also, your conduit score is shown on your DotA2 profile, you can see your score there. Mostly you will play with people of the same conduit, meaning if you're Toxic, quit games and get reported a lot, you will probably play with the same kind of people, and will search for a game longer.

If you can't keep it cool and can't behave properly, this game will just punish you more.
Just like life.

Cheers.

And there we have it.. The usual 'I want a mode where i can leave at anytime without getting punished for it, while i ruin it for other players that do want to play' post/reply/reaction/mindset.

Let me tell you something.. There have been made thousands/millions of posts about such modes/features in the past, and never ever has one of them succeeded into making it to the game.. Why? Because it's just a really bad idea that has been explained for years on why it's a bad idea..

Go play a singleplayer game that has no competetive/online/multiplayer option so you can leave at any time possible... Your 'idea' is not going to happen. So i'd suggest stop wasting energy in thinking that it will happen.
