32:9 ultrawide monitor support
I recently bought a ultrawide screen, which is amazing for some games, but kind of awful for ones like DOTA 2. Sure, I can play it in a window, but that's not so much fun. I can get DOTA 2 to run at the right size and aspect ratio with some tinkering, but that screws up the field of view so I am way too zoomed in. Is there any way to mod the game so that I can have the normal display height with some extra space on the sides?

I don't believe so, because having statistically more vision than others seems too advantageous for valve's standards of fair play

You just want to cheat with map distance. You are not going to fool anyone.

That's just maintaining consistent gameplay across all devices. If you could adjust the zoom just because you have a bigger monitor, people with higher end rigs would have a very big advantage over lower end rigs, which defeats the purpose of a competitive game.

One way or another, it's true that it's to keep fair gameplay when it comes to vision.

It sucks from the perspective of enjoyment - having to run the game in a window is pretty lame. If having the same field of view is of such vital importance to fairness, then the least Valve could do would be to have some kind of tasteful edging to fill the rest of the screen. Better yet, they could fill that space with the various menus - shop on one side, player list and minimap on the other.

But if you think about it would be detrimental to your game where you need to look at wide spaces just to view the game.
