Question about first time MMR 10 games calibration ... how to
Hi there ... this is gonna be a rather large question but i need a very serious answer. First a little history

I have being playing Dota since wc3 dota 1 ... it's almost 10 years now ... but i am rather new to steam ... im from cuba and here internet was a dream until recently and even though we have it now it's very costly ... so i have a 10 years experience in dota but i am only playing steam dota 2 for 1 month now.

Asking question and reading post i manage to know that i need around 100 games to enter the 10 games calibration. But i have a lot of questions.

as everyone i want to be fairly calibrated according to my dota level witch i think may be around 3500 and 4000 MMR. not o show off my medal but to have a positive experience in dota the few times i can afford to connect to internet. I don't like playing with toxic anti-players but in my case this games with this people only ruins my fun and make me waste money. i know this is unavoidable at the beginning so i am rushing towards get calibrated.

Finally my questions:

- Must of my 65 games are being played in Turbo mode (less time = more games = less money)
but i have noticed that turbo mode heroes stats are not represented in my profile ... only unranked normal matches hero stats. so i understand that when i achieve the 100 games i will be having an estimated MMR and then i can play my 10 ranked calibrating matches in ranked mode. This estimated MMR will be calculated based on my 40+ turbo games or based in my 10+ normal unranked matches?

- must of my unranked matches were played with a party ... my friends ... therefor must of them are won ... but ... this will impact my solo MMR or my party MMR

- I play mainly support. It's what i enjoy and the position i have must success on ... i have read a lot of post regarding how difficult it's to climb MMR as a support ... and how KDA GPM XPM impact the calibration ... so can i play support in both solo and party ranked matches in the calibration or u guys dont recommend it.

I would really appreciate logical answers from people who has knowledge of how the system works in general of course.
i dont have a lot of time to play like 50 hours a week in steam so i need to played my 8 hours a week in the must challenging scenario.

thanks in advance

How to calibrate 3.5k solo :
1.Only ur hidden mmr is important.
2.10 calibration is a joke. It only takes into acct how consistent u r
3.the first 30 unranked games determine ur hidden pool.
4.carry and mid is best for calibration
5.turbo is good for booster and smurf
6.link ur dotabuff to see if ur highskill
7.only calibrate when ur highskill in solo.

Here is my dotabuff for smurf www.dotabuff.com/players/859260327
U can scrool down and check how I played my first 10tbd games.

First off, you're going to have a rude awakening because unless you start playing a lot better then you are not going to calibrated at "around 3500 and 4000 MMR" which you claim you should be. To be honest, it doesn't look like you'll even hit 3k. Just because you played some Dota ten years ago doesn't equal ten years of experience. Not trying to be harsh, I'm just saying that your stats don't show a 3.5-4k player.[www.dotabuff.com] And that's okay but you need to be realistic about your skill level, your expectations and how you can improve your gameplay.

To answer your questions, the requirement to play ranked is not # of matches but actually a profile level of 20. 100 normal games will typically give you enough xp to reach level 20 but turbo games give far less xp so it will take more games to reach level 20.

High skilled players who play support have proven you can calibrate to high/very high skill by playing support. initial calibration games are based on personal performance not win/loss ratio. After your first calibration, any future seasonal recalibration games will not reset your MMR and will only result in very little MMR gained or lost.

I suggest checking out this guide for new players. It includes tips, tutorials and other resources to help you.

In my opinion the most honest way to calibrate is to play according to your usual personal play style. Just play in your calibration matches as you would play in any match. The same with your pre-calibration unranked matches. E.g. don’t play a hero/role you wouldn’t play in your matches or don‘t spam a hero, if you don’t do that usually. Just be yourself.
And right, don‘t calibrate to early for ranked. Only calibrate if you feel comfortable with the way you play. As said, check Dotabuff if you are matched in high skill matches in unranked on a regular basis.
Have fun!

hi boss galaga ... thanks a lot for your reply ... it was very helpful indeed .. i didn't know i needed to reach level 20 ... so turbo games give less experience ... i see .. that's very good because i really hate turbo .. that's not dota ... in my profile u can see 2 DP because that's my first hero challenge ... i not have being able to win either of the 2 games ... but i was doing my best .. i think that completing hero challenges give more experience ... as u say I'll try to improve my game-play as support ... i guess what u mean it's that if i get better I'll be ranked better ... regarding my personal estimation of MMR i agree with u that my profile doesn't look like I'm 3k at least ... like i say at the beginning i''m a veteran of dota and i think that my pick form it's around almost 4k ... but i very new to steam and the lag ... the communication problems the toxicity it's taking the best of me ... i play dota regularly with my friends offline ... i usually tend to play CM not AP .. I'm my teams captain and drafter and shot-caller... so this thing of steam of 4 hc and a jungler in a team it's taking the best of me ... what i see to understand from your post it's that if i play correctly as a support lets say ward okey .. dust .. smoke ... pull .. stack .. assist ..less death ... i will be eventually take my hidden MMR to high skilled ... that's my goal because i know im not very high skill ... it does not matter if my hc feed or break his items ... steam/valve will know that i played correctly ... that of course discard some plays that i used to make with my team like ... casting some of my spells in a friendly shrine team-fight die because of intentional over-extension and immediately buying back ... but that's ok .... from now on ... i think i can play some solo unranked instead of turbo since the goal its level 20 ... no 100 games ... again thanks a lot for ur reply ... really appreciated

You can get additional XP from trophies but to unlock the All Hero Challenge trophy, you will need to win 116 All Hero matches in order. It's a great way to gain experience and familiarize yourself with playing as and against heroes in Dota 2 but it won't get you to level 20 any quicker.

If you're having lag, then you need to look at the recommended specs and your computer specs, and your network. I'm just guessing but you're probably experiencing both graphic lag and network lag, judging by what you've said.

If you are more used to playing team games then instead of focusing on ranked gameplay, you may want to consider creating or joining a league team and practicing and scrimming against other league teams. However, it looks like you still need a lot of experience before getting into amateur leageplay.

hey boss galaga ... i read ur guide and was really helpful ... i know that what i'm going to say to u will not sound with a lot of sense ... but it's the painful truth ... in my original post i said i'm from cuba ... that means i don't have a gaming PC i don't have high speed internet connection ... i'm playing dota 2 with a 4th generation core i3 laptop with the intel integrated graphics ... and my internet connection it's a really overpriced shared 3G mobile data metered connection... dota have always being my passion and i try to spend some resources playing online my ping are 120-140 minimum ... but i can't go over my physical limitations ... of course you don't know what i'm talking about ... all i want it's a little of quality (for my skill level ) dota games with people from around the globe ... i don't literally have the money to afford to even connect every day to steam and 5 games session it's my limit... i thought that rushing ranked will get me to some quality level dota ... i'll try my best to follow your advices and get better i'm very open minded person and always want to improve ... but i'm afraid that i will not have the time(money) to climb to high skilled before calibrating ... because i think that it will not be accomplished in the remaining 34 games i have left until 100 ... by the way looking at my dota when i select ranked it says that 100 games are required not level 20 ... well u know a lot more than me about this stuff ... i was saying i will spend my 34 remaining games in unranked as a support and try to do my best even though my hc has AM bf at min 45 ... thanks a lot guys ... to all of you for you support

You're probably playing below the minimum recommended specs in regards to your GPU. You would have to drop your graphics settings as low as possible but you may likely still experience lag. 3G is playable but it's also not recommended. The problem isn't necessarily the speed of the 3G connection but moreso the stability of the connection that will cause lag spikes. If it's a metered connection, that's worse.

Until you get a better computer or internet connection, you may just want to look into playing some other single player strategy/rts, 4X or tower defense type games. Of course, you can play Dota 2 solo versus bots and sort of tailor them to a multiplayer experience with custom AI scripts.

jajaja you are absolutly right ... i'm playing below all minimum dota 2 specs ... but like i said dota it's my passion ... i dont want to play anything else my internet hours are very limited... and i play a lot with bot (for me it's the only way to test my builds because i cant connect to steam regularly) ... if you have the time check out this games replays ... see for yourself my in game level ... it's not high enough ... but i'm not a complete noob either.
