Black screen on pick phase?
Is anyone else getting this bug where they find a match and as soon as they load into it the entire screen is black preventing them from picking a hero. I never abandon a game of my own free will, but because of that bug i've been getting tons of abandons and now im in low priority.
Is there any way to fix this? i dont know what causes it and it happens at random times some times not happening for weeks.

1. Check your internet connection. Make sure it's stable & good enough to play Dota.
2. Doesn't works? Try to verify integrity game files.
3. Still not working? Reinstall Dota.
4. Really? Still not working? Replace your laptop / PC.

Having this issue as well, you ever found a way around it?
The Artist Jun 25, 2019 @ 10:54pm
Hello guys had the same issue probably because of my not so new PC , hold your mouse still no clicks no cursor moves , no keybaord clicks , just stay passive for about 30 seconds more less. Hope it will work to you as it does to me and some other people that were asking here !

Those new patches made the game unplayable at some stages.
That stupid loading screen, sometimes it loads ok and sometimes it keeps loading and I start the match 10 seconds later because is trying to load.
Sometimes is trying to load the match and I got disconnected in that black screen u are talking about.
People with older computers like me we notice the effect so much. They need to improve a bit some performance

i used to have the same problem. black screen at ban/pick phase and i get randomed hero. even the versus screen was black/loading. i didn't do anything to fix it but it kinda fixed on its own.

maybe i did something i didn't know that would fix it? idk. booted my pc, restarted steam, verified files... idk what i did but its gone now, no more black screens o.O

Happens to me as well its all doe to old hardware, dota keeps increasing the preformance (for some reason) i remember i used to run this game ez on my pc back in 2k16 now it crashes both on the hero picks and loading screens sometimes it runs smoth no problemes and no crashes at all and sometimes the opposite
Id suggest you modify the resolution maybe it'll fix a thing or two

Dang this is an old post but an update, Changing your resolution until you get into a match can fix it as i have recently discovered. Despite updating my hardware (spent nearly $1000) it still happens to me sometimes but lowering your resolution does seem to fix it. :d2naturesprophet:

Well to be more descriptive, If the black screen has already appeared exit dota, make sure the task is closed then reopen it change your resolution to a lower setting including other in game settings then change them back to normal once in game.

I know its a weird workaround and its made much faster with a fast PC that can load dota quickly however its really the only way to avoid an abandon, hopefully this helps good luck people.

Check your task manager, you may see your CPU at 100%. I can't figure out why when I start dota it shoots the CPU usage from 5% to 100. It's not that intense of a game unless they have a horrible bug. I'm on win 8.1, Quad core 3.2Ghz intel, 2gb nvidia card... go figure. I noticed it usually does this if I have apps open before I open/start dota. Once I have dota open and am past hero selection, I can open all the apps I want no problem.

What sucks is that the black screen occurs, you can't choose ♥♥♥♥ and valve bans you for 30 mins because you didn't "ready up"... smh

My CPU goes to 100% usage in the Armory for some heroes, hangs for 5 to 15 minutes, with pudge it hangs for an hour to load presets from shuffle menu. Really buggy.
