It’s the same thing from your perspective and it’s an API that is not upon the whim of Apple deciding to deprecate something like

OpenGL
32 bit apps

For no good reason

no it isn't the same at all...it's like direct x for windows...duh.

vulcan is trash and not the equivalent whatsoever...but muh valve has to support linux for...reasons. linux first i guess lmao

You really seem to not understand what Vulcan/Metal/DirectX is

But you'll be happy to know that DOTA2 uses Metal on MacOS

It does so via MotlenVK

Its also amusing you claim "Vulcan is trash" with no sources to back that up but you know 'facts' are inconvenient when you're mishmashing APIs in your head

Vulkan is by in fact way better than DX12 to use.
It doesn't hurt the performance in many cases like DX12 does (Even on AMD hardware that supports ASync) and works across the board with different types of systems

but it only has the open gl option? so i assume if i choose open gl i will get metal by default.

vulcan is an unstable, overconvoluted mess, i don't need that.

i assume dota doesn't use metal because most games have both metal and open-gl options

Writing from 2020, a long time DOTA 2 on Linux player. I use Vulkan and it has been very stable and perfect performance on maximum graphics for a long time, both NVIDIA and AMD but slightly more stable on AMD. I understand that some thought it unstable because DOTA 2 was one of the very first commercial games to support Vulkan, and in 2016-2017 I found using Vulkan in DOTA 2 very buggy, extreme artifacting, stuttering, frequent crashes, and continued using OpenGL for matches. However, by mid-2019, I noticed that DOTA 2 with Vulkan was much more stable in the newest versions of DOTA 2, and after I bought Radeon RX 5700 XT (since AMD is much more stable and easily supported on Linux than NVIDIA) I switched to Vulkan entirely and have found it provides higher performance than OpenGL with the same stability. I do not use Windows or MacOS however I imagine Vulkan also works well on them by 2020 (particularly since Windows usually has better game stability and support than Linux across the board).

Yes exactly. They need to have support for Metal API instead of the current two trashy OpenGL and Vulkan.

why necroing the thread.? doesnt make any sense.. Vulcan is pretty stable now if u ask me. more resource friendly and high quality and stability. try it with the most updated drivers out there.. u wil see the difference.
