What role is pudge?

So i want to play roam pudge, and i get reported by noobs that say i m not playing my role.
They say "omfg pudge not support, reported!" " pudge not off laner, reported." " pudge is roam, not support, reported"

If I mark support role and pick pudge, reported for not playing is role.

If i mark Off laner role and pick pudge, reported for not playing is role.

probably people that think pudge mid bottle rush is still how you play it and the only supports are cm, shaman, warlock, oracle, dazzle, io, ogre magi, and chen.

Reporting system in dota is crap, if you play good and own ppl you can still get reported

Pudge can be played any role except for hard support, although mid/carry are kinda gimmicky - require good understanding of a hero and don't work in every draft. Offlane is standard, support is secondary, carry/mid is possible for a good player.

I get your point as each carry have their own playstyle according to their skills and none of them itemize the same way at the opposite of hard supports who could litteraly all build the same items if they go utility all along.

But I feel like it's about time for this community to give supports/roamers and offlaners their value also.

It's way easier to develop a carry behavior and know when to farm, when to engage/disengage or when to push and develop a contextual item build knowledge while when you support, positioning and map awarness gets to a whole new level and you even have to adapt to your carry on top of that.

Carries can only trust their supports, but supports have to both trust their carries and adapt to it. For pros it's a peanut duty, but in solo mm it's hard as you might know the carry hero, but you have know idea of the player own style if he doesn't communicate anything.

I think you misunderstood the last sentence of my post. I didn't mean what role is meant for good players or bad players. What I meant is that, Pudge's primary role is offlane, his secondary role is support, and he can be played mid or carry by good Pudge players who understand strengths of weaknesses of the hero and know how to press their advantage.

All of that was about Pudge, not in overall context.

they dont understand the hero i guess pudge can litterally be played on any position i play him on all 1 2 3 4 in my divine bracket and no one seems to report/curse at me for doing so

The fact that you're in the divine bracket is why, Archon and under you'll get crucified for picking a role and playing a hero in that role if it doesn't fall under your ally's definition of that role.

He is "the hooker" that's his role.
He can not really support any carry,
He can not stop any safelane farming carry

so he's the hooker, that gets single targets that are half out of position, full out of position and eats the babies.

I think pudge is a versatile hero. He is viable as mid, roaming support or carry if opportunity allows it. If he gains sufficient str then in late game he can tank and initiate so I would probably consider him most viable as support roaming if the circumstances allow. Early roam with succesful ganks would translate to a more tanky pudge.

At the end of the day it's best to play the role the team needs.

Nah. Micro is the easiest part of DotA. It's macro that separates high skill players from low skill players. And the fact that low skills don't understand it.

Pudge can offlane or support but you have to actually play that role. If you let your core down because you just leech exp for a while and then roam, you are not playing your role as support. If you dont stay in lane and fight for last hits as offlaner but instead leave and roam, you are not playing your role as offlaner.

I've seen mid pudge, offlane pudge, safe lane pudge, support pudge, hard support pudge. The most versatilehero in all of dota.
Edit: there's even courier pudge. And if you play long enough, eventually you'll meet pudge creep, true story

Pudge can be a support. Almost any hero that isn't a hard carry can be a support, in my opinion. Windranger is a decent support, as she has a great stun, is capable of making paths for your team quickly and easily through trees, has a great escape which can also act as a utility to move across the map quickly without using TP or investing into phase boots or items to boost her movement, and her ult is great at harassing enemies in a team fight and pushing lanes.

You just have to work to your heroes strengths and as long as you don't pick heroes which don't have any logical sense in the role you're trying to play them with, you should be fine. (For instance, do NOT go Support Faceless...even I would report you for that.)

But yea, Pudge can be a support. Great items to buy for him as a support would be pipe, urn, and veil of discord.
