No, the medal is a reflection of the highest skill level you've attained in the season.

The medals are just a record of your peak as they don't go down, game still uses MMR to match people.

but i've just got down 1 star. I calibrated in 5 star Crusader, suddenly this morning I got one game my medal in "?" calibrating, I thought it was a bug, I won the game, and I got 4star Crusader? Wtf is going on?

There was a recent patch that affected how party MMR contributes to medals and I guess there were other undocumented changes that made that happen or it's a bug with that patch.

Well it isn't just you so either this is a widespread bug or it's a rework so it doesn't matter.

The medal derank was a bug and is getting fixed.

''There was a bug with the servers we shipped earlier today that caused this. That bug has been fixed now, but we're still in the process of repairing the rank medals you've already earned in the database.''

Sorry, I'm not a Guardian.. i'm better than that. And I didn't lose a lot, just a few.. and that's why I'm pretty frustrated when Valve derank me this morning.
