need help, can't download/update dota (SOLVED)
I have tried verifying cache, reinstalling, restaring steam/pc and 3 different hardrives.

I get a connection timed out error, which makes no sense as i can update and install other games whilst watching 4k youtube fine.

This leads me to believe its an issue with steam, but any suggestions are welcome.

SOLUTION:
Good news everyone, it was steams fault as most of us guessed. I copied the steam files (excluding steamApps) from a different pc and now all is working well.

Im guessing it was one of steams hundreds of temporary files that creates all over its install. I do wish they would bring steam into this decade.

everyone else is still able to play dota 2 though. (all those in US and europe as well as SE asia)

i was able to play dota 2 two hours ago, so in other words, it is neither steam/valve nor dota 2 at fault.

it is most likely your ISP server having problem instead.

since you never bother to confirm whether your internet service provider is having problems.

then you have no right to say that steam/valve and dota 2 is at fault.

it seems unlikely my isp would be having issues with only steam.

As an update:slowly one by one all new updates are suffering the same issues. Steam in the past 5 or so hours has downloaded 86kbs for like 2 seconds. I will try reinstalling steam in the morning.
My ISP is not the issue and my firewall has no effect on steam. I rein stalling steam fails ill put together one of my other pcs and see if it works on that.

Hey OP,

Please try to go to upper left corner in steam client
Click steam
Click Settings
In new window that pops up, select ''Downloads'' tab
On bottom of that tab you have box that says
''Clear download cache'' - Clearing download cache may reslove issues downloading or starting apps

Maybe if that works.
If not, in same Downloads tab try changing download region.

Good luck.

how do you know?????

did you ever bother to call them at all????

do not assume that ISP don't have any problems just because you never call and ask them personally yourself.

if you think your internet would work 100% fully in downloading except downloading 1 game among thousands, then you dont know how isp's work.
its common issue with steam to make you being unable to install their apps/games.
stop looking like baboon.

there is such thing as bandwidth throttle.

and the ISP you contract with for your internet connection can "bandwidth throttle" if their server overload.

and i do remember OP making such a thread before quite a while back, maybe a few months back.

also, you can't use youtube as a main reason that your internet connection is stable.

anyone with 512 kb/s to 1 mb/s internet connection can watch youtube videos without a single problem.

Call them? didnt realise we were still in the 90s, all of their current and planned issues and outages are listed on their site, they do not throttle anything but torrent programs and certain pirate sites that the government made them.
internode.com.au if wish to see for your self.

I made no such thread, furthermore that bandwith throttle you invented breaks alot of different laws, nameley consumer rights and accurate advertisement legislation.

That is both out of context and a lie, as i said i was downloading another game and watchink youtube in 4k.

Frthermore if steam was throttled that much than how am i posting here?

If you continue your toxic behaviour i will be forced to block and report you.

from the way you say, you are blaming steam/valve for your files and folder being corrupted.

that is 100% wrong.

the only people that can corrupt your files and folders on your computer is YOU YOURSELF and no one else.

Whats your point?
He had issue, he resolved it. Problem was in files, nobody cares by whos fault. Stop softcore flaming and burying a thread that may help someone else.

his latest post clearly shows he is blaming valve/steam for his corrupted files and folders.

every single person who has learn information technology......etc knows that corrupted files and folder majority of the time are caused by the person who uses the computer.

not the company nor the program that installs the game files.

also, the solution OP found is not a permanent solution some more.

p.s finding the solution to the problem is one thing but still blaming others for the cause of it when you are the one at fault is totally wrong.

p.s its like you play a dota 2 match where you play so poorly and still go blame your team mates for it by coming to the dota 2 forum.
