They both work the same way bro, The Language preferences (in matchmaking or primary engine) are so you can see, read and understand the game in the language you pick. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the language the players speak. Its so if you get someone who does not speak your language the chatwheel and ping commands work for both of you. IN your game you see them in your language in their game they see your commands in their language. You do not need to speak another language to properly play DotA. Just use your chat wheel and ping commands they work fine.
And Pings do work, just because you dont like it and the latinos are trashtalking you and you cant understand what they are saying about you WILL NOT change the actual real function of the language preference. They are not for what language the players will speak in the game, its so the chat wheel and ping commands can be read in the language you pick.
so most likely there not many english speaking ppl playing at the same time you play who also share the same mmr/hidden mmr
theres also ppl who would set their preference on english
anyway you say a team who speak the same lang will have an advantage over a team which did not?? not really you can easily work with chat wheel in most cases and if you speak the same lang you wont really land that enigma + magnus dream combo or whatever
im saying this because most of my good games were with a silent team
2) the lack of mutual understanding ruins more games then language barriers
3) giving the language preference a higher weight in matchmaking would be an unfair advantage for the native speakers of the only six matchmaking languages
4) there are dedicated game modes for more reclusive players who don't want the typical effects of going public in public matchmaking
5) chat wheel, pings and alt+key/mouse button are great because of the automated translation but also there are only positive and helpful phrases on the chat wheel
6) it always has been an advantage to be multi-lingual
Live is a better representation of social living than a social game. This is not only a Dota2 but a real world challenge. Take it!
this post contradicts your reply to ☣ cyberpinoy ☣ post completely.
you are complaining about
1) why people can't speak english language.
2) why am i being team up with people who don't speak english language even though i have chosen the english language in my language preference.
this thread you started is the same as all those threads where others are complaining about russians in EU east and EU west.
lthe problem is that if you mark english like prefered 1, other language don't get censored or translated, so is an useelss option if they don't fix it for working in the right way.
