How to move Dota 2 from primary 1440p monitor to secondary 4k monitor to spectate games
I like to use my 4k TV which is set up as secondary monitor on my Windows 10 PC to spectate Dota 2 tournaments such as The Internationals.

The problem is that the game starts on my primary 1440p monitor every time. I can move it to the 4k monitor by using shift + window + arrow keys, but the resolution will remain the same 1440p which is too small for 4k. If I try to alt + enter to make it fullscreen, it pops back to my primary monitor.

Only help I found from Internet was this https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1dy2m4/howto_spectating_on_a_second_monitor/ and after trying a bunch of different launch options I was not able to get it to work. The game just kept popping on my primary monitor with 1440p resolution, no matter what.

As far as I know, the only way to make this happen is to set my 4k TV as primary monitor. Then the game launches properly on the TV and I can set the resolution to 4k. But making the TV a primary monitor is a pain to do every time you want to spectate a game or two.

Any help? Gaben pls fix?

Some games do have an option that lets you choose the display on which they start. I think at least Ori and The Blind Forest and DOOM have this option. I would love to have a similar option for Dota 2. And if it was possible to set it as a launch option that would be even better as I could have 2 different shortcuts for my both monitors.

I'm in the same boat. I got a 2560p primary monitor but want to be able to watch dota on my 4k monitor to my right. Sadly the 'best' solution I've found is just to open it at 2560p resolution on my 4k monitor:

My launch setting for a shurtcut used just to watch dota 2:
"X:\steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\bin\win64\dota2.exe" -windowed -x 2561 -y 200 -high -console -engine_no_focus_sleep 0 -sw

I tried to use the width and height launch option, but they are ignored (probably because they are greater then my primary monitor so dota doesn't wanna do it)

sorry if this thread is dead already. but as I search for tips on doing, it I find this post, but somehow I manage to move the game to my second monitor. I tried to set first the Display Mode to Windowed, then drag the application to the preferred monitor. then revert it to Use my monitor's current resolution.
