Dota 2

Quick tip to hotkey.
You don't really have to get used to the default settings. Instead you can actually set your own that fits your style and finger.

It is actually better to play Dota 2 if you have the mouse that includes button 4 and 5, which is the button you press with your thumb beside the mouse, because then you have more options at setting your hotkey.

An optional choice is learn to quickcast which I did since the first time I tried Meepo. I'm like quickcast is awesome wow so I started acquiring it to other heroes and now I'm a quickcast player that can Blink Dagon in 0.5 sec.

Why Valve adds the feature to move items around your inventory? That's right. Hotkeys.
Most of the time if you notice, the space bar is kind of useless in Dota 2, so why not give him some actual uses that improve your game?

For items that I'll be using a lot I set the hotkey to space bar. Most of the times it's Blink Dagger. Sometimes BKB. I set mouse button 4 for items that will be used in teamfight, or is one of the combo to kill for a certain hero. I don't know what I'm typing either because it's hard to explain so let me give an example.

Axe killing combo = Blink -> Berserker's Call -> Blade Mail -> Culling Blade people with low HP.
There's a blink I can set it to space bar. How about Blade Mail? It's impossible I set it to N and move my finger so far away just to finish my combo. So that is where mouse button 4 and 5 works.

That's the advice I can give you to setting your hotkey. Thanks for reading. Comment if you have any problems or I did something wrong, even give me advices to further improve my hotkey setup.

May I ask how the Quickcast function differs from the normal Hotkey?
Never bothered to actually look it up...

Quickcast activates the skill/item to where your mouse is pointing no need for the confirm click.

That means I can horribly ♥♥♥♥ up with AOE spells and Items, right? Looks like something that needs to be used with caution. How does this work with targeted Items like Dagon?
And does an Urn cast on oneself or the closest enemy/ally?

it cast on what your mouse is pointng to.if there is no unit under the pointer then dagon, urn, and any other skill/item that has the same mechanic wont activate.

if your mouse is on empty space then it wont cost and you will get a small (no target)

so if you want to cost urn you will need to your mouse to be pointing on the target while pressing the bottun

it wouldn't if you get used to it. the only main downside is that you couldn't double tap to cast on yourself though you can use alt + hotkey for that.

That explains everything. Thanks for the clarification.
