Whats up with the penalty on maximum cast distance? (Blink dagger)
So some items Ive noticed have a penalty when you try to use them while being out of range.

Glimmer cape has a cast range of 1050, but the wiki tells me:
"If the target is more than 1050 range away, the caster moves to the target until it is within 800 range before casting."

So if I try to use glimmer cape while being too far away I will lose 250 cast range. This example isnt that extreme because I wouldnt just wait for him to walk closer, but Blink Dagger works the same way, when trying to Blink outside of the cast range you will instead get a shorter blink.

"When targeting beyond the max blink distance, it blinks for 960 range towards the targeted direction, instead of 1200. "

Who is learning all these cast ranges by heart? Why is this punishment in the game?

There's an option that will show you the max range just an fyi.
its for high level plays, you can out-blink the opponent if you do it perfectly, it saved me bunch of times
It raises the skill ceiling. You aren't going to be at a very big disadvantage if you don't always do the max-distance blinks, but if you CAN do the max-distance blinks at a good rate, you can make bigger and better plays.
I hover with my mouse over the blink so i can estimate the distance

For blink you'll get used after some time, you will then know to estimate that 1200 range...you won't get penalty for any distance below 1200 so in my expirience 99% of the time i get 1100-1200,only time maybe i go over is when need to escape asap.
And for glimmer cape spamming it again till you are in that 1050 range will solve the problem, you get 800 if you wait for your hero to auto move closer...

What about doubleclicking the blink? Also, it's not hard to estimate if you check the cast range when you expect you will have to blink in a short time, because you can synchronize the range circle with your movement in your head..

I'm always using quick cast for blink,so I have rough estimate what 1200 range looks like...like I said only time i get penalty is when there is a nasty situation and I have to get out of the way quickly,so maybe move my cursor to far...
Almost every other item i set on quick cast (except tp since they incresed cd and can't afford missclicking) so i can keep spaming untill I'm in range...
Now,blink penalty can ruin your day if you blink short off the cliff while running away from enemies, but I don't see it's so big deal, just keep playing and you'll get used to it,so you will get less and less short blinks...
Just remember 1175 or so is better than 960 so my advice is start with cursor ~1100 and over time push further out, closer to 1200 :)

When you have experience blinking 1000's of times it start to become natural
