Right click on dota -> Proprieties -> Open local files -> "dota 2 beta" is the folder that you need to save in case you'll format you pc so you won't have to download all over again. You'll still need to do a bit of update after, but not bigger than 100mb
And when you want to install dota 2 again, you just have to copy back the game folder into "common" folder, then stam will recognize and verify it, and all done.

I don't think those releases are put on the internet for manual download. I am also in pain about the uber extreme frequent number of updates. I appreciate me an updated game and a caring developer constantly fixing things in the game. But if they update the game five times a day and the update size is 300mb just for fixing a typo, that's when I start getting pissed off.

It's not like I play everyday, but I play from time to time and these updates are really killing my quota. Why not roll the update out in a single blow? Why the hell does it need to be in bits and pieces of big sizes? It's not like I can play without updating, except maybe starting in offline mode but why would I be forced to do that?

This may seem lame for some people but I find it a very important inconvenience. These non stop updates need to be less frequent.
Hmmm.. you got a point...
So what should we do now...

just backup the latest dota 2 files on a thumb drive or flash drive.

then copy them back after that.

that is the only solution.
