You see, Soulstorm is more like mistake forgiving, thus not that huge amount of skill gap is required to be covered. Add abuses, critical bugs and engine flaws to this, and you'll likely end with massive mental pain. Not the experience you want to have, just believe me.
And if all of that was not enough for you to concider avoiding this game, let me just make a statement about the community, and hell the ♥♥♥♥ it's just utterly terrifying. I'm not going to point fingers, yet still...
Anyway, good luck out there. Apologies for my English if something was difficult to read.
It's worth noting it's very different to soulstorm. It's less RTS and more MOBA.
Great though in my opinion.
If you get it, try multiplayer after the tutorial, don't forget your 2 hour refund if you get no games(or just hate it)
Also, resources work a bit differently. Generators can not be built in your base, but on power nodes (different type of strategic points), Requisition income decreases the more units you have, since every unit has upkeep value.
In addition to that, melee combat is a lot more effective in DoW II. Melee units enter a state of melee charge at a certain distance from their target, which results in a speed increase. They can knock down infantry models with special attacks (which occur depending on the units' melee skill value), so you can't kite as easily as in DoW I. And there's also the suppression effect which occurs either from being under fire by a specific weapons or some special abilities.
I understand what you're trying to say, and in fact, I agree with that. But!
1) 30-50 players is more like a true, but Elite mod does have "low" and "low-mid" lobbies frequently. Not that Elite is not a trash even more than a retail but still.
2) There's mostly enough 1v1 to concider it not an that minority as you said.
3) There's definitely some days when every single lobby has 60+ min requirement, but then it all goes away and you can play again (I myself don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ that is).
4) As of elitism, I just want to say that if you're a stupid idiot, who don't know even the basic mechanics of the game and yet go in the flames of multiplayer of 10-years-dead game with a 10-years-of-experience playerbase... That's the one of the main reasons why this game is dead as dead can be. I'm not an elitist myself, but I can't stand it for a long time already. So yeah, it's a kick without apologies and regrets if you haven't warned a lobby about your skills.
So in the end it's not as unreal as it might appear at first glance. But definitely not worth it if your frustration threshold is too low or your time and nerves are of value to you.
For the Last Stand: Forgotten Emerald visit the discussion https://steamcommunity.com/app/56400/discussions/0/618459405722375947/ where they have the way to download it.
Also if you wanna play co-op just ask away.
PS: Love the name LOL
Some player actually let you play and help you learn.
Listen, man, you're gonna have a tough time at this game (and, honestly, it might be anything else). But not only because the playerbase is experienced and has a rough attitude. It's also about you.
No offense, but please:
1) Don't spam. If you want to learn anything, then be ready to contribute to community the proper way. What you are doing is not.
2) Don't recommend anything if your experience is narrow. Especially when you've stated that you're new.
3) Read the thread and actually concider other opinions. Seriously, I've stated that the situation about entry threshold is different than "they bully me and don't let me play" above. I've provided a solution also. Yet, I guess, you're pessimistic about the subject. That's not the way, but, have it as you wish.
(And no, I don't claim that my opinion is the only true one. That's not about it)
So, if you want to play DoW 2 consider joining Elite Mod server on Discord. I am sure that at first you will be stomped even by low level players who have 50-100 hours of multiplayer, but after that you will find that you are improving and can go toe to toe with most of other players
The online portion is split into 2, The Last Stand and Custom matches.
The Last stand will consistently have players playing it so theres not much to worry about there. Experience or newbies isnt really a problem for this play mode, its about how much you play it and how much you like and enjoy it. Learning will come naturally as you play more matches in TLS.
Custom matches is a different story however, be it ranked or custom. For the experienced players, we have years and hundreds if not thousands of hrs on this game and keep coming back to it throughout the years to the point where we recognise each other when we join a lobby. For the starters, its best to find someone who alrdy has experience with online, a friendly experienced player whos willing to guide or just host a newbie only lobby. Losing and getting kicked is a common practice for newbies online at this point cuz its the experienced players make up most of this game's online player base now. Also, looking for discord groups of experienced players while hard, it is still possible and some are willing to help guide you in the online matches.
Elite is brought up many times cuz it is the most active mod created by former devs of the actual game with an actual player base for online matches. With elite however, you will find 2 types of player bases only, ones who plays it and ones who absolutely hates it. The ones who plays it are the ones who are experienced and are looking for "balance" of the game itself as some of the vanilla stuff is left unbalanced overall. The ones who hates it are ppl from both spectrums, experienced and newbies. Some experienced plays elite and finds it actually more unbalanced than the vanilla and usually the matches are of high lvl players. As for newbies, elite is NOT a good way to learn the game, its balance is very diff from the vanilla, the players are mostly consists of experienced players who are alrdy filtered through the vanilla and plays elite so they do not have to tolerate or put up with newbies in their lobbies. I know that I paint elite mod and its player base in a bad light but its the truth, some ppl hate it for a reason and I dont blame them.
Overall, this is a great game that I will and still do come back to no matter how many years has passed until maybe one day, the servers gets shut down and actually dies. I want to recommend this game to ppl but its a niche within a niche and so old and unheard of at this point that hoping for new player base for this game is like a godsend but keeping them is a whole different story.
TL;DR There are still playing this but time of the day and day of the week also effects match making, online is fun if you are willing to put in the time and effort to learn how to play custom matches.
