What happened to pavlov

What happened, why is no one playing this game anymore?
I used to be able to find any server with any game mode decently populated a year or two ago, especially workshop servers. Now there is hardly anyone playing and I honestly can't recommend this game to new players.

In short, this is an 'early access' game that stayed in this category for years and relied on independent developers to create mods that kept the game alive. That is fine, mods are the reason people bought this game and loved. They released an update, 29 I believe, that broke many parts of the game, including almost every popular mod. Mods are what kept this game alive for the years and without them the game is dead. I haven't played much since the update, but tried again a few times this week and tonight, and saw almost no one playing. There was only one 24 player server with people tonight, and the rest had 1-3 players. Less than 10 public servers had players. Before the update, there were always many fully populated 24 player servers; you would have to wait to join one.

This was my favorite multiplayer VR game, but sadly it is dead now. I miss prison break, secret labs, PAVZ, ect... I'm not sure if the update was forced because of their unreal engine license or they made money from meta? The update had zero improvements to the game and made some aspects worse; I'm not sure whey they broke a working game..

From what I've heard mod support was improved more then anything. But modders need to port there maps over from UE4 to UE5. Also people just assumed mods we're removed due to the steam workshop being retired.

I think it was a bad idea to swap to mod io over steam workshop. Not only is it harder to keep track of yet another website and whether or not its up or down due to an influx of traffic. But its harder to remove mods to due to bugs with mod io and it's more difficult to see if something is updated to the current game version or not on mod io.

I understand modders have to update their stuff to make it compatible with the new version but it's like they all got sideswiped by the update and we all suffer because of it.

I wanna come back and rehost my server but there's barely any working customs on mod io rn so it feels like its just not worth it yet. RIP pavlov They shoulda waited a little longer to drop the update.

i hope nothing happened, the game is awesome, just needs more diverse mods, official ones with something new, so many things to play with in VR
they are like a sleeping giant i think, much like blade and sorcery, this medium is tough on businesses

well considering steam gave me a broken version of the game but yet the beta works perfect i duno i wounder why theres no players

Because no crossplay, and new competition from other shooters.

The Meta version of the game has 10-20 full servers at any time, with even more during weekends. PCVR just isn't as popular, and without crossplay it's clearly apparent. This only drivers the playerbase lower while their competitor, Contractors, has crossplay and therefore many servers.

PC players funded the other ports of the game then basically got abandoned by the devs. Sure, there'll be another update, but not one that will make the PC community happy. They will say otherwise but the PSVR2 and qUeSt versions are more important to the company at this point. We all know this.

Very slow updates. People got bored with it. Popular youtubers don't play it. I only knew of this because of youtubers but now i forget i even played this game. Such a shame.

Depends on what you're looking for. It would seem that for mods Contractors has been leading the way. If you want more 5v5 competitive play then Breachers is the place to be.

Since the update that removed workshop support the game has run terrible for me also lmao removing workshop support.
