Authentication/connection timeout on private servers with some custom maps.
I recently started playing the game again after i managed to get my pc to work properly again. however i also discovered that whenever i try to host or join most custom maps i get the error message saying either "Authentication timeout/failed" when i'm hosting or "Connection timeout" whenever i'm joining. the weird (and most annoying) part is that this doesn't happen with all custom maps, i've tried multiple zombies maps and the gm_construct sandbox map and they work fine, however when i try to host/join rust from MW2 or some other map that has default gamemodes i either spawn in frozen (usually my head stops tracking too) for few seconds when i join someone or i just see the map for like a second before i get kicked back to the main menu with the error message.
The default maps also work for me both when hosting and joining, and afaik its only the custom maps that have no custom gamemode that get me kicked out.
This only happens when i'm trying to join private servers (i think other servers work fine) because whenever i try to play those maps with bots i load in with 0 problems.

Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? i have tried pretty much everything i can think of and i would love to be able to play the game with friends without this extremely frustrating issue, and due to my loading times i can't test it out for myself.

if its authentication time outs, it could be the map was updated since you last joined it, and steam is not updating the map. It could also be a bad download or a bad workshop map. You should consider cleaning out your workshop folder by unsubscribing from everything in the workshop, then deleting the contents of the folder "located in: steamapps/workshop/content/555160"

The connection timeout stuff can be similar in the sense you are taking to long to load into said map. Try pushing pavlov on to your SSD or loading the map in offline first. This can help rule this out as the cause.

for mw2 rust i can load it in offline, but whenever i try to host/join it i get the error, i'll try your advice and let you know if it works.

about my ssd, i don't have enough storage on it for the game, also the cod zombies maps take have a similar or longer loading time than rust but i can join those without problems.. but i'll try it out if nothing else works.

Have you tried clearing your appdata for pavlov too? Its an easier solution that has fixed similar issues. Generally speaking, appdata and workshop clearing fix most issues. If they don't work, we gotta try other niche stuff.

1. Press start 2. Type "%localappdata%" without quotes and press enter 3. Locate Pavlov folder and delete it.
