Rest sniper rifle against a surface?

Are those little stands on the front of the rifle just for show? Seems like it would be useful to crouch down and place the front end on something solid so I can just fine-tune the aim, instead of having to steady both hands enough to shoot the target.

pavlov isn't built for sniping, so grab that 50 cal, and run full speed at your enemy and shoot em. But if it was a game where sniping worked, the bipod would be cool, if I recall someone on the pavlov dev team got put on there after developing working bipods for ww2 weapons, so idk why they aren't in the game yet.
