anyone playing with an oculus rift ? (not the S, just the CV1)
got a rift cv1 last night w 3 sensors and tripods for $200. It's my first VR so i like it, I tried this game and well, it's good but I feel like it would be even better on a different headset. What do you rift CV1 owners think ?

When you say different do you have any specific headset in mind? I mean if your computer can run a headset with better specs obviously it would be a better experience?

I find the CV1 is good. I'd welcome better FOV and resolution though. I'm running 4 sensors and that generally has no tracking issues. I'd be curious to play on lighthouses.

What do mean with better on a different headset? Want more resolution, FOV, wireless? Right now I think the only thing other headsets offer is better resolution, tracking is the same if you dont mind using more usb ports, audio is better in the CV1 that on most of the headsets.

yeah man ik what you mean, I just meant like how much better i guess ? Like would it be worth it to spend the extra hundred to upgrade in the future or will the cv1 work just fine ? I have a 2080ti and 9900k so performance isn't an issue to me. idk this headset just seems a bit blurry to me, but its prob just me getting used to it.

yea bro sorry for not being specific, I meant better res, this one seems a bit blurry to me but that may just be me. I just hope I didn't buy something that I will have to upgrade soon.

I bought the oculus earbuds and they were great. In ear is awesome quality if you don't mind not being able to hear your surroundings irl. My wires for audio must've worn out since it's a ribbon cable that moves when the headstrap is adjusted. Kinda a poor design imo. Currently have a 3.5mm extension to earbuds zip ties to the head straps.

There's still screen door effect, for sure. Even when you have your headset strap adjusted properly and the correct IPD is set on the slider. I've only had the chance to try the DK1, DK2, and the CV1. Each one a drastic improvement over the other. I'd love to try some higher res sets but for now I'm happy with my current setup.

I looked at getting the HP Reverb for flying and driving sims. It has a crazy 2160x2160 display. Depending on hardware stepping up in res can hurt performance which really degrades the experience. I'll take blurry butter smooth. Than a stunning vomit enducing slideshow. Those are obviously two extreme ends of the scale. Anyway kinda cool to see it visualized.

Looks good to me. I got 500+ hrs with the CV1
Brainslug Jan 27, 2020 @ 10:52pm
I'm still on my CV1. I like it still, The trakcing is really good (with three sensors) - much better then any inside out HMDs (Rift S, Quest, etc.) as is the refresh rate. Only downside is in fact the resolution. It is a bit blurry - but with most VR games that isn't really a huge issue.

The only HMD i would upgrade to is an Index - but then I also have to upgrade my rig - and I don't have 3000 bucks right now. :)

I'll wait for the next generation of HMDs - i also might use my Quest with link once it works reliably.

CV1 here, works fine, i got only 2 sensors, and tracks fine even behind me

I own a RiftS but have played Pav on a friends Index and also on a friends CV1.
The Index and the RiftS look better than the CV1, the friend that had a CV1 upgraded to a Rifts after using my Rifts.

The index is better but not 700 Euro better the image quality and tracking is pretty much the same as a Rift S you will notice the bigger FOV on the index for sure and the 120FPS fresh rate is nice

VR is great I love it but it still has along way to go in regards to resolution and FOV. My advice is to test out some more head sets and see, but if your happy with what you have wait a few years this stuff is only going to get better and cheaper with time.

Thanks man, yeah the quality is a bit blurry with this game but it is fun for being my first ever VR. I think I will upgrade to a index or rift S soon tho. Just got this one to see if I liked VR and I will keep as a backup when I upgrade.

It’s awesome how you still use the CV1 and still have so many hours on Pavlov ! Glad you are enjoying it man, yeah I don’t see a reason to upgrade until a huge upgrade comes out. It is a bit blurry, but eh, whatever. Appreciate the comment man.

I had my CV1 since 2017 and played a lot of Pavlov on it. Since upgrading to a RTX 2080 Ti, I cranked the super sampling up to 1.8, which gave a good boost in clarity. I upgraded to a Rift S some days ago, though. And the difference in visual clarity is more than I expected. Really worth the upgrade, I think. Black levels in really dark games (like The Walking Dead) suck though.

Honestly, I'm really glad I got the CV1 when I did. It's good value for money, doesn't have the tracking issues the S has had when I tried it and looks very good/tracks very well for a cheaper option.

Probably gonna stick with it for a while. Really don't see a reason to spend 1000 bucks on an index when this one is doing just fine.

CV1 owner here since 2016.

The price I paid for the three sensor setup and additional ear-bud earphones, you can buy the Valve Index kit for now.

I know that the newer headsets have a significant upgrade to the resolution and in the case of the Index higher refresh rate and FOV- but non of these things will make me swap out my CV1, yet.

I do know that if I were to use an Index or even the newer Rift S, the CV1 would instantly show its shortcomings with the visuals, so I am in no hurry to try newer headsets and the current experience is still good enough.

When FOV is higher, variable focus exists and eye tracking with full foveated rendering is working
and available in a consumer headset for around the same price, this is more than likely when I will retire the Rift CV1.
Brainslug Jan 29, 2020 @ 10:52pm
Yeah, I want the Rift S HMD with the CV1 tracking, controllers and audio, please.

Why can't we have nice things, Zuck? ;)
