Game crash on startup fix

Ok peeps, so it is not the workshop content causing the issue. All you have to do is clear your download cache and will work flawlessly.

Go steam - settings - downloads - clear download cache.


That's it. I tried reinstalling the game which meant reinstalling nearly 110gb of maps again. All to find I had the same crash on startup.

The solution above completely fixed the issue. It is not an individual map in the workshop.

Just clear your download cache and happy days for all.

The devs should have the fix up for everyone to see as I'm sure lots of people have had this issue.


This is the fix. Forget all the other methods of uninstalling and reinstalling that only works with just the standalone game not the workshop content.

Hopefully everyone sees this so we can have more players back online.

Ok additional methods. Turns out a faulty map could cause an issue.

Try This
Clear download cache; then; then
Unsub from workshop maps; then
Then verify game files;
Try loading then if all goes well resub to your most used maps.

If you delete your app data and attempt to launch Pavlov VR, there should be a recreated crash log in your app data at "C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Pavlov\Saved\Crashes\[crash name]\CrashContext.runtime-xml". If you open that log in notepad and post it here, I may be able to help you get Pavlov working again (as that log is what helped me fix my own problem).

Pavlov Doesn't start

When opening pavlov, I'm getting the loading screen, then it crashes and shows nothing.
Any ideas?

I tried deleting the pavlov appdata folder now as well (under users). Still doesn't work.

I also unsubscribed to all workshop items now. Still crashes on startup.

I've tried everything and I still get a crash, the game will boot up, black screen, and then the crash and error popup.

I've unsubbed from all workshop content, nuked appdata, cleared the steam download cache, reinstalled the game, twice.

The only thing I can think of is driver version, I've just updated my GPU drivers (Nvidia). Anyone else with crashing also on nvidia and recently updated?

Can't play at all :/

Well, I've figured out what was causing my crash...

There was a bit of text in the launch options in steam for Pavlov, removing all of that resolved the issue, lol.

How did you get into it and what did you delete exactly?

I had same problem game crashed on launch for me updating unreal engine to newest version fixed issue game plays perfect now 👌

uh... how do you update the engine? Also shouldn't pavlov update it's own dependencies? This game seems really arse-backwards

Game crashing on startup

Hey guys,

Game has been working fine for me - haven't played in a few months and now can't start at all. Errors on startup every time, no option to see actual error, just crashes and I hit Send Report.

Other VR games work fine - I uninstalled and reinstalled, Cleared Download Cache and Restart Steam, Unsubscribed from all Workshop etc.

Any ideas? Really sucks...

Pavlov broke

so am i the only one not able to start the game anymore? did file validation and it fixed some files but still isnt working
