Rift S losing tracking!
Every time i shot, my controllers starts vibrating and tracking goes to hell...
Any fix?

I just had the same problem and I think I fixed it about 99.5% on my system. I unplugged everything except the rift from my motherboard USB ports, and I mean EVERYTHING before starting up the oculus software after a fresh reboot. I also turned on more lights in the room and somewhere between these two things the rift worked fine for a one hour session with a loss of controller position or slight glitch in head position. Once I knew the unit was good enough, I plugged in USB devices one by one and retested, it turned out my keyboard plug was bad and it would flicker on and off for a microsecond, short enough for windows not to care but long enough to screw up the rift. I ordered an externally powered PCIe USB 3.0 card that will only have the rift plugged into it.

symptoms:
  • gun keeps firing on its own
  • gun flying away while shooting and returning once mag is empty
  • tracking problems - view freezing, glitching, hands getting stuck

promising solution so far:
  1. reboot and login
  2. unplug everything except rift s
  3. start game
  4. A) if rift works continue B) if rift doesn't work plug into different port, repeat 1-3
  5. add one thing at a time (ie keyboard, mouse) and continue playing game until tracking fails
  6. if tracking fails remember the last USB you plugged in and don't use it anymore, your rift is the only device you ever needed anyway (hope it's not your keyboard or mouse).
  7. if you have a laptop, go into fetal position and hold yourself crying on the floor
  8. if nothing else works, maybe exchanging the rift for another will fix it?

Oculus has hidden somewhere in their documentation a page about using a powered USB hub, I've had no luck with my powered USB 3.0 hub myself.

Update: after using the PCIe USB card for a few hours I can confirm my headset has not lost position tracking during game play. Controllers are also much more responsive to press and release of grip and trigger buttons while firing.

Try changing USB port.

Same here. The gun position becomes really weird when I shoot with 2 hands holding it.

The headset can get confused when the controllers are too close together. So try not to use two hands with pistols

Talked to the oculus support, they are aware of this issue and is going to be fixed with a firmware update.

It's not sensor related, the vibration feedback have something wrong.

I tried it and worked, removed all usb from my mobo then plugged the vr first then the mouse, works.

I changed batteries to some higher end 1.5 volt batteries. I have played none stop for like 3 hours without crashing (yet at least)
Ted Striker Sep 9, 2019 @ 3:26am
Update on my reply from earlier, adding in a PCIe USB 3.0 hub with 12v sata power fixed everything to a 99.5% level. The other 0.5% I think is inherent with the need for the rift s to see the controller at all times. I also did was Junior did and changed the batteries to a new name brand set. I went from a glitch or total rift crash every few minutes to only a small glitch every 5 - 10 minutes and no loss in positioning.

I should add that I plug only the Rift into the PCIe USB card, the 3 other slots are left empty. With this card I'm also able to use a 6 foot extension, too.
