Gun/Hand placement is way off in real life
I've been playing Onward and other VR shooters (H3, BAM) for a long time now (almost over 200 hours in Onward). So I feel like I have some experience and knowledge of how hand placement on guns should be dealt with.

Let me state the issue: When I get a rifle and I place my both my hands on the gun, I expect the back and front end of the gun to align with my hands. However this is not the case with Pavlov. The gun is down and right about 30 degrees or so. This is especially noticable when I use my noobtube stock, which physically aligns my controllers, cutting out the by-hand alignment mistakes.

In order to align the weapons properly, it seems I have to take the guns down, almost to a hip fire position.

I'm not a VR developer, so I'll not presume on how to fix the issue, or if it needs to be fixed in the first place. However me and many others in the VR shooter community may find the alignment to be out of standard and hard to play with when other VR games do it better in our opinions.

As of now I couldn't recommend the game as is, since this is an important feature to get right. But I do understand it's an alpha, so I hope you'll take a look at how other games like BAM and Onward do gun/hand placements.

I'll look forward to any updates as the game is being developed.

There's an offset to allow non-cumbersome two hand grip, so no matter where you grab near the weapon grip it will work, which works great if you're not using physical rigs.

i'll make sure to add an flag to opt out for that.

Did you tried any weapon other than the shotgun? it indeed has 30 degrees pitch up

Thanks for the feedback this gave me alot to work on,

Hello davevill, thanks for the response. If you can add a flag to opt out, that would be great. I'll come back and check it out once you've added it.

I tried other guns yes. Actually, the shotgun seemed to be the best fit so far where other weapons just didn't work for me.

early 2021 and the issue still exists. I haven't touched the game in months because i can't handle the amount of jank when just trying to aim. All weapons, without exception, aim about 30° downwards when holding them horizontally. I have to almost aim at my ceiling if i want to shoot straight. On top of that when grabbing other objects, like grenades or mechanisms on guns, the hand is completely off to where it is ingame, making grabbing and interacting super awkward since ingame hand your muscle memory aren't cooperating. Appearently this issue only exists on oculus, but i had vive players ingame try to shoot straight with their eyes closed, and almost all of them shot into the ground in front of them. So i'm pretty convinced that this issue is universal and most people just don't notice.
I've seen multiple discussions on here already with people complaining about it, but appearently it's not worth to be adressed.

On top of that, the virtual stock is also still broken. It's also aiming about 30° too low, probably originating from the same issue.

And before any questions come up, yes i've tried both the oculus and steam VR built, i've reinstalled oculus software, tried reinstalling the game, made calibrations to height and tracking, and confirmed that tracking is working properly with countless other games.
And if there are any other troubleshooting steps i haven't listed here, it's very likely that i've already tried them too.

I just got a VR and started playing recently... I found the alignment feels really "off" - things definitely don't align as they would If I were shouldering an actual weapon... I was actually hoping there would be some workshop mod to change alignment... but instead i only find this post :( Well, I'm glad to know it's not just me.

....and tbh, I'm relieved to hear that other VR games don't have as much of an issue, I was super dissapointed as I thought this was how VR shooters were). Well.. hope something gets changed... or that settings are added to manually calibrate positioning, adjusting offset and angles etc... I'd dig the game otherwise, super cool stuff.

I have this same problem after the 29 update. Every weapon aims down around 30 degrees, making reloading and shooting especially with pistols unplayable.. using pico 4 with virtual desktop, no problems on other shooter games. Trying to uninstall and reinstall tomorrow..

Same issue here with the 29 update on Pico 4 via Virtual Desktop. It's the only app with this issue. Hands are offset by about 8 - 10 inches, unplayable. Already tried uninstall/reinstall to no avail.

There's a weapon offset adjuster that you can use. I just spent an hour in there readjusting all of my weapons. Insanely useful for me since I still have to use iron sights and don't have the muscle memory to just point and click. I'm on Quest 2 though.

Where to set it?

Thats strange.. my friend has same setup as I, and he's gun position is just normal. I just uninstalled, so I'll hope this will work..

the shooting range station that allows you to change weapon offsets still does not allow adjustments for x axis rotation. on valve index, the in game guns point 5 degrees to the right of where you are actually aiming now

Thank you @TC SKATES! I didnt even know that you can adjust the tilt at TRAINING/SHOOTING RANGE. The aim is still not perfect (with maximum tilt up), probrably 10 degrees off, but its now way better untill it gets fixed!.

@Xan same problem, try to adjust the tilt at shooting range, theres still thing to fix with the aim, but its way better
Hugh J nuss Jun 15, 2023 @ 11:24am
it still points too far right, which for people that carry a pistol for self defense, could literally be a deadly training scar if you ever have to use your pistol IRL. i noticed after playing that when i went to the irl shooting range, i instinctively was presenting my handgun pointed too far left because the game was forcing me to compensate my irl aim to make the in game gun sights line up.
