Flame is still Just Flame. Burns over time, but lacks the immediate "stopping power" you'll need on occasion. It IS fun to have as an option, but if you're trying to stay versatile you find yourself running with the Stalwart or MG Support if you have Flame on Primary. For bugs I've found the Beam Weapons to be highly reliable if one is looking to burn bugs. Like a hyper focused flame thrower with stopping power.
HOWEVER: The Krisper Pistol is often overlooked.
I personally LOVE it for my Panic Bot Pistol. For those moments when you have some Buzzsaws up on you, maybe some devastators, those moments when you go "OH Sh*T! Where'd they come from!!!" Big burst from the hip with the Krisper as you run away. Won't kill right off, but they burn out easily and give you some space. Although now with the Plasma Pistol you have options for that. For bugs I tend to bring the Grenade Pistol for closing Nests.
Fairly high DPS, i remember melting brood commanders pretty quickly with it before fire damage got un-nerfed so it should be even better now.
Recently saw a guy using it and for the majority of the match i thought he was using the support weapon flamethrower.
Dude was effectively melting hordes and keeping them at bay similar to the regular flamer so that's pretty good.
I'd recommend having another weapon that fires bullets though, maybe a stalwart/MG or a decent secondary.
Also gas visuals are minimal, half the time can't even tell if I am hitting something. Gas drone has no range so it doesn't do anything 95% of the time. Where as flames turn night maps into day maps, just an added bonus to what they already provide.
Gas is like flames, but lacking in range (no gas rifle, launcher, or shotgun) and options. If the dev's added a gas eagle strike or something so can do a full gas build...might be worth it just for the armor to support it. Until then it is inferior and there really aren't any gas specific enemies, not sure the vomit even counts.
Gas is kinda bad tbh.
