Machine gun vs Gattling gun turret question

What are the comparable pros and cons of each of these turrets?

They feel like they serve the same function but I want to believe the design of this game has niches for everything.

pros: the gatling turret is better
cons: the machinegun turret is worse

That's really it, it's rather simple, the gatling puts out more damage, has more pen, has more ammo, has more rate of fire, has longer up time despite the longer rate of fire because it has more ammo, there is no downside to it except that due to being better at everything it can also teamkill you faster if you step in its way.

That said, you can run both, so think of it as you have your main turret that's better and your secondary turret in reserve.

i wont disagree that gatling is usually just better, but they do both have the same penetration

mg needs a buff, but overall mg is a bit safer than gattling.

gattling is like a frenzied berzerker, once it sees an enemy ITS GO TIME - friends nearby or not.

overall to be honest neither of them has a competitive role as long as autocannon sentry and rocket sentry and mortar sentry and EMP mortar sentry exist.

MG is faster turning and shoots only when on target - less teamkilling.
Gatling has more ammo and dps, but it's turn speed is slow and it continues shooting as it turns - more than likely to kill unaware teammate.

Gatling is better for horde clearing, MG is better to guard Hellbomb on Shrieker's nest (And get Chargers off your arse, as they for some reaosn hate them and will prioritise. destroying them.)

Autocannon is one of my favorite turrets in general too. It still gets outclassed by both Gattling and Machine Gun when dealing with trash swarms though.

Rocket, mortar, and EMP mortar fill completely different roles of support.

the MG turret has higher armor penetration than the Gatling. If you throw a gatling and a MG turret against a groups of bugs with hiveguards you can watch hundreds of gatling shots ricochet off of hiveguard head before it finally dies. MG turret doesn't have that problem.

Assume MG is more accurate shots and turns faster
Assume gatling sprays even while turning
I can conclude that MG is better for coverage and gatling is better for point defense.

gating wastes ammo turning, and prioritizes sweeping across helldiver heads when turning. have had it turn the long way around and elevate downwards to get me point blank in the head before. have also had it compass me to do the same thing, just snap to my head, shoot a bullet, then rotate to its target. gun's faster than its FoF or something.

no such problem with the mg.

All reputable sources agree: The gattling gun and the machine gun turrets are both medium armor penetration.
