Is anyone else not having fun anymore?
I'm all for difficulty in video games, that's the entire reason I play them... every time i opened up Helldivers I'd get so excited about how it used to make me feel and how much i grinded everything to the point I'd be late to work. Now, i'll play it once every few weeks and the feeling before opening the game and the experience i have is always absolutely insufferable. I don't even have a fighting chance anymore... it went from utter chaos to just sheer annoyance. i just feel weak. disappointed and powerless. I love this game so much.

There is an issue with current gamers. They are obsessed with playing only on the highest dificulty setting. Period. Somehow if they are not as hard as can be its no longer fun.

It would seem, though you may not be aware, you were one of them. You have a set dificulty in mind and went in (in the begining) and were able to run that.

The devs balanced things. Difficulties like impossible, suicide, and Helldiver are called those for a reason. The reality is you are *not supposed* to be able to win those regularly, at least not as a regular combatant. Period. They are meant to be a big fat L more often than not unless you have a near perfect 4 man team and run a near perfect run, or you run them solo and stick to stealth and gathering and doing objectives without aggro. Outside of that expect failure after failure or wins with high losses each time.

The reason is in their names. They are meant to literally be impossible, or worse. They are only meant to be run by those with top end gear and top end coordination.

If you are finding, post patch, that the difficulty levels you played on are now too hard, the answer to re-gain your fun is simple. Play lower dificulty. Find the one that feels good. Specially if you have already run the grind and have nothing more to get. Play for the fun, not for the "I checked a check-mark today!" grind.

The game has changed a lot after the devs adjusted the spawns. We now have a Major Order against the bots and a large group of the playerbase still doesn't want to leave the bug planets. At some point the devs will have to face the problems they created themselves.

I don't understand your dilemma. For me the game hasn't changed at all. I was about to tell you to just take a break from the game but the further down I was reading your message, the less I could make any sense out of it.

People dont want to leave bugs b/c any bug battle is a whole step or more below any bot battle. Specially in the mids where many play. T5 on bots is easily harder than T6 on a bug planet. But (going back to the 'always have to play on the highest I can' mentality) people would rather run T6 missions all day and feel good about the T6 wins on bug planets than run T5 on bots with equal challenge but less of the "I'm the best" feel in return.

I mean, I love Halo. But looking back on the last 30 years of gaming history, I kind of blame Halo for this. The whole "if its not legendary why bother" mind set. It flowed over bad and has infected and entire generation of gamers.

I sometimes have no fun with randoms in the queue because there's no unit cohesion, but I always have fun with friends.

I just dont enjoy the bots, and its mainly a mix of the rockets, and their insane level of awareness. the second is inconsistent though, but at the very least feels way higher than the bugs. could just be the bugs cant snipe you from a distance so its harder to notice when a squad inexplicably suddenly saw you.

Let's ignore how 'a near perfect 4 man team' is completely unrealistic for a game like Helldivers 2 and focus on the other problem. Unit spam is something you encounter on every difficulty. In fact it's impossible to tell the difficulty from the number of units that are on the screen. The game just can't create a 'base difficulty' for a mission. Instead there are massive spikes where the game throws everything it has at you and this happens at difficulty 4 just like it does on 9. It's so much the game doesn't know where to put these units. This is the reason why patrols spawn on top of players or why the game stores groups of Automatons in the middle of map.

Lil'Bit.
  • They still haven't corrected the gun tooltips or put them in the correct categories, makes you think that even AH doesn't know what theyre doing.
  • Unreliable patches.
  • Untrustable Game Masters.
  • But mostly I think its the crashing and disconnects.

Found out that some of the crashing has to do with Support Stratagems and that you can force crash a missions by just using Support Stratagems enough.

So you realize why the players prefer fighting bugs but instead of blaming the design you blame the players and a 20 year old game. Ok.

Doesn't sound like it. It rather sounds like the game never was for you and you probably should find a new game to play.

I stopped playing because I got bored. The new warbond is cool but most of the stuff in it isn't that great, the sickle and the stun grenade are good thats about it.Devs want to make the weapons terrible and for us to rely on stratagems, but the stratagems have absurdly long cooldowns along with them being trash or broken.

I had a level 47 join my lobby against bots and told me he was a "Bot Virgin" and apologized in advance. Blows my mind

Is it the difficulty? Or the playerbase or just being burnt out

I'm bored. I thought we were going to get the quasar cannon and stuff this week along with the arc fix.
inb4 someone says "but content blah blah they need to fix the bugs first" - the content was made long before the game released. It's already there.

The only thing I would say is I also hope we have a rebalance patch. There are very few actual effective items. If you want to mix it up a bit you have to literally cripple your play session to dork around with weapons that are mislabelled, don't work the way they say, etc.

Do you really think this new content is bug free? We'd all love to have the apc but imagine the complaints when it blows itself up for some stupid reason or causes more crashes when it fires its guns.
