You can, but holding shift (when running) will always auto-climb, hence the issue a lot of people have with it.
This is what my problem was, I should've been more specific originally lol.
Sprinting and climbing shouldn't be bound to the same key, it's akin to having W bound to reloading as well lmao, kinda weird that this slipped the devs.
Particularly when you can change the method by which space triggers climb, but it has no effect on whether you climb when running. A strange design decision in my opinion.
What you can and can't climb often makes zero sense.
Sprinting is for fast horizontal movement, climbing is slow vertical movement - if I'm running away or towards something, I should never stop moving unless I choose to do so.
