"I can't pass the Stratagem tutorial!!" AKA Keyboard Ghosting
Edit: Putting TLDR at the front 'cause I'm still getting illiterate-ass replies: This is *not* an issue with the game. Your Keyboard is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and has ghosting issues -OR- a third party program is overriding your Ctrl+ Commands. The best the devs could do is change the default Stratagem button, but that easily causes more issues for more people.

OG post:
So, I know other people had this issue but I doubt most people have ever dealt with it prior.

When you go to use Stratagems, you have to hold Ctrl and hit the WASD keys in various combinations.
If you've never tried playing something like a fighting game on Keyboard before, there's a little known quirk about some keyboards you probably won't know about but run into here.
If too many keys are hit at the same time, or certain keys are hit at the same time, the keyboard fails to send the input to the computer.

I couldn't complete the tutorial because of this until I realized the game wasn't broken, I just have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ keyboard, and I changed Ctrl to a button that *CAN* work with my WASD keys (in my case that being Alt)

While there are probably tons of issues in this game (I wouldn't know, I just launched it), it seems silly to let people keep being angry and just straight up wrong about something that isn't even the devs fault.

My suggestion to the devs is to make Stratagem either a toggle on Keyboard by default or change the default to something safe that should work, like Shift.

TLDR: I just wanted to make a big, long, lengthy post to let people know that: No, the game isn't broken in the tutorial, your keyboard just doesn't like simultaneous key presses. :MFF_Mog:

uhhhh... if you're gaming you should be using an anti-ghosting keyboard, membrane keyboards aren't good for gaming.

Really, this is starting to seem like a real fustercluck of a Day 1 for the game, as I'm stuck in the tutorial as a whole due to constant CTD's; I did notice that the keybinds are different from HD1 however. I.E prone was on SpaceBar in HD1, but now it's Alt. The Stratagem menu in HD1 was on Alt, and here you are saying it's on Ctrl by default...

The previous keybinds worked just fine in HD1, why'd they change the defaults if they don't even add jumping? Sure there's crouching, but the C key was rarely used anyhow, and in some games crouching is the Ctrl button instead even, so why put the menu there? Just to confuse people?

About 15 years ago I used to be paid to test games before they were released.

I guess modern executives think that losing customers to this garbage is cheaper than paying for professional testers pre-release.
Try change it from "HOLD" to "PRESS"

I had melee bound to "w" which prevents you from being able to complete stratagems............

just put the stratagem ♥♥♥♥ on an extra mous button lol. why would u want to hold a button down on your keyboard and then have to put in the code with the same hand?

Yup, started playing controller and I've been having a blast, zero issues except the multiplayer connectivity stuff.

That's a nice sentiment, but mechanical keyboards are fairly expensive and most people who play games *don't even know this is a thing*.

I feel it should be the devs' responsibility to assume for lowest common denominator tools and equipment, especially since I saw Day 1 forum to be flooded with "this doesn't work" because they had membrane and didn't know, but despite thiat...

"losing customers to this garbage" is a very weird thing to say about something that they can't account for. It's clear (moreso on PS5 tbf) this game had rigorous testing since everyone I talked to at most ran into minor issues. Server issues are the only common thing, but this game also massively oversold what their infrastructure expected.

There are tons of issues on PC, to be fair, however the issue I'm describing in my original post that you're reacting to are *entirely* out of the devs hands and are due to people having ♥♥♥♥♥♥ keyboards and blaming others out of simple unawareness.

What's weird is I haven't had a single CTD despite doing tons of alt+tab shenanigans. My BF crashed once, and we both would DC as host upon starting a party mission, which seems to be a server-side issue.
Honestly, while it's not a great or even good launch, I'd say it's still fairly stable for a formerly small-scale team making a live-service-esque game
tho my only experience with live service aside from mmos is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ *Halo Infinite*, so my bar is fairly low by default.

accounting for keyboard ghosting isn't really a thing anymore? you can't even play many games if your keyboard has ghosting, and most keyboards can hit up to 3 keys at a time even if it's not a mechanical keyboard, the fact ctrl stops access to keys is a problem with that specific keyboard and shouldn't even be a thing

That's part of the problem. Many *MANY* people still use membrane, and each membrane keyboard have specific combinations that don't work. I've had one that lets Ctrl+WASD work fine. I've had some that cut D and W, my current one only cuts out W.
It's such a unique problem that can't be accounted for aside from giving people accessibility options like the game's "Toggle Strategems" opt or bindings.

edit: all that to essentially agree with ya here, but pointing out that it's more common than many hardcore gamers realize, though it's literally unreasonable to make sure devs account for all this ♥♥♥♥ in testing lmao

unfortunately it depends on how good is the circuit board of the keyboard, yes it's mechanical but it doesn't mean it would deal with keys inputs like a good keyboard, I had this issue previously with an old lgitech mechanical keyboard and I had to put it on the shelf and use my old Logitech normal keyboard because it was better, 2 years ago I bought a red dragon mechanical keyboard, it's a Chinese made and made from aluminum and so far so good, it's a 60 euro mechanical keyboard and is enough for me.

that shouldn't even be a thing, ctrl is a modifier, you're meant to use it with at least 1 other button, any keyboard that can't register ctrl+ w,a,s,d is faulty IMO; I get that it 'is' a thing, but how can you use a keyboard like this for 'any' game? not just this, but any MMORPG would be non-functional if you can't use ctrl/alt/shift + all your keyboard keys.
