"Transfering" the game from Ubi to Steam
So, I was playing the game for free on Ubisoft and I really enjoyed, so I decided to buy it. I bought it here on Steam, because I had some cash on my wallet. My question is: do I have to install the game all over again or is there a way to make Steam recognize the Ubi-installed version?

Thanks! :cozycrashfish:

Short answer: Yes you have to install it again.
Long answer: Ubisoft games on Steam are different to the ones bought through Ubisoft Connect. When installed through Steam the files are downloaded, installed and stored under the Steam directory on your hard drive and if you own the same game on both Steam and Ubisoft Connect then there will be two copies of the game on your profile in the Ubisoft Connect program, but each will be installed differently.

Try going into the "Ubisoft Game Launcher" folder under Ubisoft on your hard drive and copy the Far Cry 5 folder into the "common" folder found in Steam/steamapps and see if Steam recognises the files as already installed by clicking on the install button on the game's Steam page. Steam will say it's reading files instead of just going right to download.

If that doesn't work then yeah you will have to download and install again.

the standard folder for the savegames is not my games, it is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames
in that file is one directory, in the next there are:
1803 for ubisoft
4311 for steam

to transfer the savegames you have to:
start uplay and deactivate cloud saves
close uplay
start far cry from steam (you will see no "continue", only "new game")
close game
go to the savegame-directory, copy your save files from 1803 to 4311
start far cry from steam (now there should be "continue")

Yep, I tried that and it didn't work, so i installed it again. But then I had trouble with the save file.

This helped me out! Thanks A LOT for that! You know the weirdest thing? I reached out to Ubisoft support (before coming back here) to see if they could help me with my 'lost' save file, since it was connected to cloud. They said it was not possible because, according to them, the save files were different on Steam and Ubisoft Connect. What kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ support is this?!

I was almost giving up on playing the game because of their answer. Never getting in touch with "professional" support ever again :)

As you can find on https://steamcommunity.com/app/552520/discussions/0/3052863612116741867/#c3052863612120332219 or at the bottom of https://steamdb.info/app/552520/config/ , the Steam folder is called "FarCry5", so when going from UPlay to Steam, you have to remove the spaces.

you are welcome, happy to help! :)
i also had a funny exchange with support, the transcript is in german, but short version: it is a 50/50 chance, it is not officially supported, but they heard it could work. in case, they could not offer support or how it could work. :D
such a simple thing like "copy 2 files" is not "supported"... oh boy!

Depending on if Ubi-Soft is keeping its game's files unarchived.
If they do - you just start downloading the game on Steam, then you close Steam, once it placed all the necessary folders and started downloading the game.
Then, you remove the "fullness" file Steam is using to track the download progress. Load in all the Ubi-Soft's game files.
Start Steam and press "Revalidate". Once validation is done, all the COMPATIBLE files will be hooked up. I still have a suspicion you'll have to download half of the game, anyway.

Hey! If you purchased the Steam version you will need to uninstall and redownload the game as Steam and Ubisoft Connect read the game files differently.

It is not as simple as transferring the game files from one folder to the other sorry.

If you need anything else please let us know.

It's silly to necro some already solved thread with wrong information. I'm sure there's better ways to utilise support resources.
