Offline play or do you have to be connected to internet at all times?

Yes you can. play offline. Of course certain things may not save.
I shut off the network adapter,
Started Steam in offline mode,
Started the game. Ubi complained but allowed offline.
Started the game from Ubi games menu and presto.

you must connect to the internet to activate your game

but yes you can launch the game if ...you create and log in to the ubi connect application
and

you have steam and the Ubi connect launcher set to start in offline mode
see this support article
https://support.ubisoft.com/en-GB/Article/000063188

also make sure you disable the cloud save option in ubi connect application settings .
then the game will save to your local hard drive ONLY

also keep in mind steam will install an outdated version of ubi uplay or ubi connect with the games files .. you will need to install the updated version of UBI connect

you can get that here https://ubisoftconnect.com

bought my uplay only gold copy when the game shipped in 2018 . got it at a discount from green man games
never had a problem with it

i dont buy Ubi games on steam .. as all steam does is add another layer of DRM to the game .. (ie you have to have steam and ubi connect open to launch the game )
i prefer to get my far cry games direct from ubisoft

as no matter where you get the game its gonna require Ubi connect ALWAYS
same with all DVD copies .. they do not need or use steam at all .. only ubi connect
SmashRyan Feb 14, 2021 @ 10:14am
So if i buy it on the Ubi launcher i can activate offline and play it?
SmashRyan Feb 14, 2021 @ 10:15am
Sorry for the questions its just ive never bought a ubisoft game ever since having a gaming PC.

you will still need to be online to activate and DL the title ,and yes its a rather large download

again see the support link i posted .. about offline mode

and yes you will need to create a ubi account WRITE DOWN the e mail and password you use .. as your game will be tied to that account FOREVER

steam would work the same way

and yes you need to dl and install the updated version of the ubi connect software

no clue what you mean >? if you mean your save files .. just make sure that you shut off the setting in ubi connect for cloud saves

your game will save to your hard drive ..remember with far cry games you must beat the games prolouge before you can create any manual save

if you want to have more then 1 save or wish to move to a new PC or save a level or mission , you can manually back up your own save files as well too

i posted about that over 2 yrs ago here on these same forums

Hi, would you mind answering this: how exactly did you go about installing Ubisoft Connect on the Deck? I've tried adding it to my Steam (non-Steam game), to no effect. I also tried installing winetricks from Discover, which told me it's not available to download.
So I have no idea where to go from here, any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

---EDIT===
After following https://stealthoptional.com/guides/how-to-install-ubisoft-connect-on-steam-deck/ up to the point where the tutorial teaches how to get it installed, I can now launch the game in offline mode AND with wireless OFF.
Thing is, I haven't found the "cloud saves" option you mentioned, so I'm not able to say whether this game will save my progress on my disk or just refuse to do that if it doesn't see an active internet connection. Only thing Ubi Connect shows close to that is the 'settings', which only displays a box to enable or disable offline mode, there's nothing related to cloud saves in there. I haven't started a gameplay on FC5 BTW.
