Far Cry 5 made my monitor darker.
Hey guys, for some reason after launching Far Cry 5 for the first time, my monitor seems to have gotten significantly darker. None of my settings in Nvidia control panel are changed, none of my HDR settings are any different, but ever since I launched Far Cry 5 my whole desktop and main monitor appear to have lowered brightness. None of the brightness or contrast settings anywhere in my windows are altered, nor are they changed on my monitor itself. What the ♥♥♥♥ happened?? Why is Ubisoft so ♥♥♥♥ at making games.

For some reason certain games require HDR settings to be enabled on desktop before they are to work or enabled in-game. Far Cry 5 for me at least isn't one of them. But if the settings are enabled as default on launch it could perhaps change desktop settings as well despite them being disabled in nvidia settings. It's not the game's problem, it's driver level stuff + monitor type. Division 2 does the same thing and i have that many issues with HDR i simply just turn it off full stop.

Have you tried simply restarting your PC?

Yes I have restarted my PC, no change. HDR was already on in windows when I downloaded Far Cry 5. I've also uninstalled and re-installed my graphics driver to no effect.

If it makes the monitor darker, try turning off HDR. I noticed it also makes my games darker on some games, like no mans sky is super dark after it is turned on.

turning off HDR in the game doesn't seem to change anything

Turn it off, shut down the game, then restart it. Sorry, i forgot to mention you may have to restart the game to take effect. Just turning it off in the game may not work. You will have to also reset the game or your whole pc. Try both of these and see if it works.

if you have an nvidia card, enable the overide color adjustment settings in the control panel and select the resolution from the nvidia panel. sometimes it will think you are connecting to a tv when its a monitor and vice versa

I'm having the same issue. Its super dark even with the brightness adjusted. It happens from the second the games is launched.

I saw something similar a few months ago on another website. It mentioned setting DisplayPort to 1.2 instead of the current. I tried to find it but can't remember which site.

This fixed it for me without a restart

I turned off HDR in farcry 5 menu and it fixed the problem, sadly turning her back on makes it dim again
